Law of Ueki Plus (Manga)

Synopsis
Two years after the tournament of the next god, Kosuke Ueki is now a 3rd year student in Hinokuni High School. For some reason, everyone in the real world has lost their memory of their most important person, including his friends, who participated in the tournament two years ago. Ueki, being the only person left in the world unaffected, is fighting in order to restore everyone's memories. Ueki follows a little sheep named U-lu (Wool) to another world called Hankagai. There, he meets new companions and gains new powers. (Source: Wikipedia)

Review:

Ueki is back to his old antics of saving people, plants, animals, anything, at the risk of his own life. When everyone in the world started losing the memories of their most important persons, except himself, Ueki placed it on himself to save the world, and get back the memories of his friends. This was most likely the other way around for him, though...

In the original series, people got their powers through a New God Candidate Battle. In this series, power-users gain what is called a Job Power. Wikipedia got a better explanation for it. But basically, job power users can have two tattoos. The tattoo on the right palm is called the "Item Seal", and is used for sealing the item. The seal on the left palm is called the "Effect Seal", and determines an effect the power user can apply on his or her item. (wikipedia). Items can be anything, including the kitchen sink, while powers also vary, such as the power of explosion, binding, hardening... Most people are only half power-user, where they can only summon an item. If they manage to fulfill a requirement, they will gain the second seal and enable a different use for their item. So if you're ready to discover more strange powers (some can be silly), Law of Ueki Plus is here.

In Ueki's adventures in Hankagai, he gains new allies. I find it a bit amusing that he has the same number of people with him, as with the previous series. Some have similar traits, too, like Haiji and Sano - both brash and tough looking but loyal friends. They decided to help him in his quest, for each of them seemed to have their own agenda along the way.

So, to sum it up, if you liked the previous series, you'll definitely enjoy this one. The author has improved, and has a couple of tricks up his sleeves, too. But, it would be best, as with most sequels, to familiarize yourselves with the first show, before going and reading this manga. It will help you understand the characters more.
