[flashback]

So I noticed the challenge deadline was today! Put this together relatively quickly, but I think it gives some insight into Raijin's past. Basically, he's ALWAYS been the way he is. XD Enjoy!

“Wait up!” Raijin called as he ran across the playground. It was supposed to be a fun, simple game of tag, but for eight-year-old Raijin it was really tough. He was at an age where he was really starting to grow and his feet were awkwardly large at this point, giving him a lot of grief when he wanted to play.

Stretching to try to tag the person in front of him, he only tripped and stumbled over his own feet and landed face-first in the grass. “Oof! Man!!” His pride was hurt more than anything, but it was still enough to make his little lips tremble as he tried to hold back the tears.

The other kids grew tired of his pity party and finally decided to leave him in the grass to dry up. Kids could be really harsh, but Raijin was no stranger to this. He’d always been teased by some of the other kids for getting in trouble a lot, and for looking different in general. It wasn’t his fault that he wasn’t a cookie-cutter child like they were!

The sun started to set a few hours later, and Raijin had stayed in place there all day. “There you are!” a familiar voice called out to him.

Raijin peeked over his shoulder, gasping happily at the face he saw, “Mommy!” He jumped up and ran to give her a hug.

His mother took him in a warm hug, “Raijin, why did you not come home? I’ve been so worried about you!” His mother had the right to worry. Raijin was so easily distracted, and she would never get over it if something were to happen to her precious adopted son. Of course, she thought of him as her own and had never told him he wasn’t her’s.

Raijin shrugged. “I dunno,” he started, “I just didn’t feel like it, I guess.”

Smirking, his mother stood and put a playful hand on her hips, “And what would happen if I just didn’t feel like cooking your dinner, young man?”

“No wait!” he was quick to react when food was in the balance, “I’ll come home on time from now on!” With that, he took his mother’s hand and bounced by her side the whole way home, looking forward to what could possibly be waiting for him on his plate when he returned.
