Sweet Revenge

Back when I was completely broke, a shady merchant ripped me off for a lot of money and since they had my credit card on file were continuing to charge me month after month.

I contacted American Express who quickly said they'd take care of it for me. Instead of taking care of it AMEX screwed me over, siding with the shady company and forcing me to pay the merchant even more money.

I had hit a horrible low point and felt that American Express, despite all their advertising to the contrary, had utterly betrayed me in my moment of need. But I vowed that one day I would get my revenge.

Fast forward, today I gave AMEX customer service a call...

REP: "Hello, how may I help you today"
ME: "I'd like to cancel every single AMEX account I have, including one personal credit card, one business credit card, and one merchant account"
REP: "$@!#%!##!"

The rep PLEADED with me to stay, which made the revenge feel that much better. I told her my story and how I'll never do business with them ever again.

The moral of the story is that revenge = awesome. Some people told me I was being short-sighted, that canceling my AMEX cards will hurt my credit score. My response is that sticking to your principles doesn't count unless it costs you something, I wouldn't trade that revenge for anything :)
