Deja Vu?
Naru scrolled through the many contests listed on theOtaku, searching for a good challenge. She sighed in disappointment, and went over to the writing section. As the page loaded, an interesting title caught her eye. Curious, she clicked on it.
The biggest difference between ourselves then and now is what we know and what we have experienced. If you had the chance to talk to the younger you (with the result not punching a hole in the universe), what would you say and how would younger-you react?
"Heh," Naru chuckled, "This could be fun..." She scrolled down to the bottom of the page and clicked "Submit". As she started to type her entry, the screen went black, and her laptop was unresponsive. "Great..." she grumbled, attempting to restart her computer. She froze in shock when her screen turned blue. “This has to be a joke…don’t do this laptop!” She hit it and the screen turned white. “Did I just make the problem wor-OMG!” Naru started to get sucked into the laptop screen. “MOM! HELP ME!!!!!”
“Stop goofing off and clean your room!”
“Mom! I’m being serious! Help me!!!!!!!” The last thing Naru heard was her mom yelling at her as she stormed up the stairs.
-----------------------------------
Naru groaned as the sunlight hit her eyes. “Go away sun…it’s too early.” Naru rolled over on her side but the sun would not go away. “Fine…I’ll get up.” She sat up and rubbed her eyes. When she opened them, she almost screamed in horror. Her room…was pink! “Oh my god…what twisted world am I in?!” She looked over to the door as it started to open.
A carbon copy of Naru, only younger stood in the doorway. They both stared at each other until the younger Naru turned her head and faced the stairs. “Mom! There’s a strange lady in my room!”
“Stop goofing off and clean your room!” Young Naru opened her mouth to say something else but Naru ran over to her and covered her mouth. Naru cleared her throat.
“Yes mom!” Naru blinked at how well she sounded like her younger self, but quickly snapped out of it and dragged young Naru in and shut the door. "Listen," she said facing the younger Naru, "I'm going to let go of your mouth now, but please don't scream, ok?" The younger Naru nodded, and backed away from the strange lady. Naru looked around. "What year is this?"
"It's 2006..." younger Naru answered, "Why?" Naru froze.
"....2006?" she asked, "HOLY SHIT I'M--"
"YOU JUST CUSSED!" shouted the young Naru, pointing at her future self.
"Well get used to it," she replied, taking a seat on the Barbie infested bed. "Listen, you may find this hard to believe, but I am your future self." Naru stared at the young girl, waiting for some type of response, but she just stood there. "...Hello?"
"What's the future like?" she asked, jumping onto the bed and landing on Barbie's face. "Is everything all high tech and future-y?"
"Well, it's not that much different from now and--" Naru stopped mid-sentence. The young girl stared at her, waiting for her to continue.
"...And? AND?" she shouted, jumping up and down on the bed. Naru suddenly started smiling as an idea came to her.
"And the world is ruled by Nazi penguins!" she continued with a huge grin on her face. Younger Naru looked at her with a puzzled expression.
"What's a Nazi?" she asked. Naru just patted her head.
"You'll find out when you're older," she smiled, "In addition to the Nazi penguins, there are also things called 'Pletheries'. These 'Pletheries' are special devices used to punish naughty children by ripping them apart from the inside out!" The young Naru's eyes widened with horror. "Have you been naughty lately?" When she didn't respond, Naru stood up and looked around.
The room was full of pink and girly things. It brought back memories of when she was young and naive. She looked over at her closet doors. The knobs were bare, waiting for the medals that she would soon earn to be hung upon them. The back of her door was empty too, waiting for her dad to put up that dragonfly hook for her to hang her useless junk on. Naru looked back over at the shelf behind her bed. It was full of stuffed animals. In the middle sat her favorite Winnie the Pooh bear. Come to think of it, it was around this time that she had lost it. Could it be that--
"Excuse me," young Naru asked, tugging at her sleeve, "What's my future like?"
"I'm sorry," Naru answered, "That's for me to know and for you to find out."
"Pleeeeeeeeeease tell me!" the young girl pleaded.
"Do you really want to know?" The girl nodded her head vigorously. Naru knelt down in front of her so that she was eye-level with her. "In the future, two years to be exact, you will become..." Naru paused dramatically for a few seconds. "Pregnant."
"I WHAT?!" Her eyes widened with shock as the news started to sink into her brain. "How?!"
Naru smiled and continued, "You foolishly put down your drink at a party and looked away for one second. That second was enough time for someone to drug it." She watched the young girl with interest. On the outside she appeared calm, but she knew that her mind was a wreck at this point. "Don't worry, you'll give birth to a beautiful baby boy!" The young girl looked up at her.
"Really?" she asked. Naru nodded.
"Of course, there is the fact that you are still a 13 year old mother with no means to support your family, and your parents kicked you out of the house because you got yourself pregnant. But don't worry! The world will end soon enough, and so will your suffering!" The young Naru stared at her for a moment before she fell back and fainted. Naru stared at her past self.
"I may have overdone it a little..." she muttered to herself, placing the unconscious child on top of the bed.
-----------------------------------
The young girl slowly opened her eyes and stared out the window. It was dusk, the sun was slowly receding behind the rooftops. She yawned and sat up on her pink Barbie bed, rubbing her head.
"That was a weird dream," she said to herself. "Was it a dream?" She shook her head and laughed. "Of course it was! As if my future self would actually visit me." She turned towards the shelf behind her bed and froze.
"WHERE'S MY POOH BEAR?!"
Withered
Alone, I stand in a barren field.
Alone I stand, unable to feel.
My leaves have withered away.
My mind has begun to stray.
Slowly, silently, my petals start to fall.
Slowly, silently, I lose sight of them all.
I fall to the earth, dry and cracked.
I fall to my end, the final act.
Faceless Demon
On this calm and peaceful night
A shadow lurks just out of sight.
He stalks his pray in silent grace
His pale white mask hides no face.
Though you don't see him, he's always there.
Watching you with an intense stare.
Black wings of death protrude from his back.
A beating heart, is what he lacks.
Beware his moans of lonely suffering.
His words are no more than meaningless mutterings.
Without a thought, he'll take your life.
His fangs cut deep, like a butcher's knife.
He'll drain your life with a ferocious hunger,
Until your soul exists no longer.
With every life, he grows stronger.
But still, he cannot deplete his hunger.
So once again, he takes flight.
Beware this demon of the night.
Dream of Deceptions
Prologue "Hey..." "Wake up..." "It's time to play..." White. Everywhere he looked, he saw white. He couldn't move, he couldn't speak. His body was no longer in his control...Fall
Above the earth, I fly with my brothers,
My sisters, my parents, my family.
Slowly, I fall down, farther and farther
Away from my home and into the sea.
One by one, they all start to follow suit
Falling faster and faster, not stopping.
Faster and faster, I fall to my roots,
Eager to see what the sea will soon bring.
A strong wind blows me and my brethren off course
Separating me from my would-be home.
I land on a nearby shore with remorse.
Unable to reach the salty sea foam.
Alone I fall through the small grains of sand.
Alone I disappear into the land.
