Another day gone by and my loneliness continues to grow. I sighed to myself as the thought ran throughout my head.
It was 8:30 in the morning and it was close to being time for school. We had a two hour delay today because of the snow storm that occurred last night but I couldn't say you would care to know anyway... I slid out of bed and headed into the kitchen. I couldn't really hold any food down in the morning, but I at least needed to drink something.
I grabbed a small cup nearby and set it on the counter as I made my way to the fridge. I hoped there'd at least be some milk left, but to my dismay, my brother must've drank the last of it last night because the only drink left was bottled water. I wouldn't expect any less... I looked sadly into the fridge and closed it, going back into my room.
I looked out the window as I drank the water and watched the falling snow hit the window hard like rain. "Get dressed Marie, you're going to be late if we don't leave quick," Mom called.
I looked away from the window and went to my closet. I pulled out some worn jeans and slipped them on, zipping them up before looking for a shirt. The jeans were a little big on me and somewhat baggy, but it seemed fine to me. I reached in again and pulled out a long-sleeved black and white striped shirt. I shrugged because the colors seemed like my mood today. After getting the shirt on, I started to fix my short hair. It didn't take too long, so I had enough time to grab my black jacket and brush my teeth quickly. "Hurry up or I'll leave without you," Mom shouted as I ran out the door and into the truck with my bag and books.
The drive to school was quiet. Mom stared at the road and I looked at my books. "You'd better get your grades up. You've been on honor roll for the past years and I'm not going to let you get a C or D yet, understand?" she said coldly and I nodded my head, looking at the road.
She dropped me off at school without saying good-bye and sped off to get in front of other cars. It was a little colder than what it was at my house, so I zipped my black jacket up and proceeded inside. As always, other kids were waiting for the first bell to ring so they could get to their lockers and also as usual: no one was waiting for me.
I walked down the hallway and cold eyes followed me until I rested on a bare spot of the white hallway and just stood there. The eyes left me and continued back to what they were doing, but when another person entered, none of their eyes would have the cold glare towards them as they did to me. I looked at the ground and the bell ring, so I walked down the hallway quickly so I wouldn't get run down by the others behind me.
I got to my locker and dialed in my combination as the other kids stormed into the locker bay. 32... 15... 28
I opened my locker, only to have it slammed by another girl beside me wanting in her locker. "Watch it, girl." she snapped at me and dialed in her combination.
I dialed in my combination again when she left, setting the books I didn't need within the locker and taking my binder and my Algebra book. Girl...
"Marie? Do you know the answer to the bellwork?" the teacher asked.
I looked up from my drawing. "It's a trick question... holes are round and don't have an area," I replied.
The others within the class groaned when the teacher said I was correct. "That's not the right answer."
"I can't believe I got the wrong answer."
"Marie's the worst when it comes to math, how'd she get that right?" I heard some kids debate in the class.
Worst...
In History, we just took a test and I was nervous about my results. When I got the test back, I groan with disappointment, as well as some of the others did. "What'd you get?"
"I didn't do so well..."
"Here's the good news, I bet we did a lot better than... you know."
Hate...
Classes passed and passed, the usual cycle that I've been through and dealt with. And it was time to leave now... I came to my locker slowly as the others around me shoved and pushed, cussing and doing whatever they could to get through. I waited until the lockers were quiet and bare. I gathered the things I was looking for and needed and packed them into my bag, then I left towards the back doors, where my mother should be waiting...
Doubt...
I walked out the door into a storm of frozen water and snow. Everyone else had left and no one was waiting outside for me as I left the building. I stood in one place and stared as the snow fell from the sky and fell on my head like a crown. It got so cold I had to put my hood on. Then I started to walk home.
The snow crunched underneath me and I was breathing hard. I'd been walking for hours. I coughed and fell down into the snow, laying on my side and not attempting to move. I stared off into the white snow as my eyes closed.
Forgotten... just like a snowflake in a pile of snow...
Technically, I'm not much of a favorite to anyone. Nor am I really useful, I just get in the way of most things... At least, that's what I was told.
I used to live in a pretty normal family, but I was never addressed by my name, so I don't have a name to be honest. Well... used to, but out of that, I don't think anything was really out of the ordinary. My mother was a beautiful redhead with complementing light brown eyes, while my father looked rather plain and had blonde hair with green eyes. From both of their genes, I came out to see myself as a plain girl with orange hair and green eyes.
I wasn't the only child though. There was my older half-sister from my mom's former partner-ship. Sara, my half-sister, was a brown brunette with our mother's light brown eyes. She never liked me though. I tried getting along with her, but it never went well. She held a grudge against me, she said I was the reason her father and mother couldn't be together and I was just a mistake.
She said those words everyday and would try and kill me when mother and father were gone. She said if she made my death look like an accident, her life would be back to normal. Then, I began to hate everything about her. I hated the look in her eyes as she glared at me, even when mother was around. I hated the scowl on her face. I hated her voice. I just... I hated her with every fiber of my being.
Then that day happened... The family picnic... Mother and father were talking to grandma and grandpa while I was sitting on a log and looking at the lake. The lake was clear, like a tear drop and was full of large and beautiful fish. The flowers that grew around the lake were also calming; this is why I loved this place so much. I closed my eyes and took the scent in and then I was pushed.
I fell to the ground with a thud. I opened my eyes and turned to see my furious half-sister. She held a knife in her left and jumped on me. "We are going to finish this once and for all," she held the knife to my neck as she explained, "When it's time to go... I'll be with mother and that repulsive guy you call a father... But they become distressed, they can't find you anywhere. I tell them I saw you at the lake... and then we come searching, but you are nowhere to be found."
I was in terror and enraged as I looked into her cold eyes. "You'll be out of the way... and everyone thinks you were kidnapped. I bet they'll call off the search looking for you, after all, you are so useles-"
I cut her off and struggled, elbowing her in the chin. I grabbed the knife that fell and threw it in the lake. Sara was distraught and furious. She came at me and we tumbled down to the edge of the lake. I hated her. She needed to die. I turned over and pushed her head in the lake, my hands firmly latched around her neck as I sat on her stomach with cold eyes. She struggled and gasped for air, but I never gave her that chance. I was still younger and my eyes were chilled from the water, but locked in place. She gasped once more and then stopped. She closed her eyes and I let go of her neck, but kept my place and didn't move.
As I sat, a dark portal formed behind me. Something black grabbed my shoulders, along with lines of darkness and began to pull me in. I struggled to get away but it was to no avail. "Don't worry... Everything will be fine, please relax and I won't have to go through more guilt for doing this to you," the black creature said, almost with a sad expression on its face.
I turned away and tears came down my face. Good bye mother... father... I'll miss you both... I'm sorry...
I was pulled into the dark portal and it closed. I was floating on my back and stared up into nothing. "Where am I exactly?" I asked.
"You're going to your new home..." I got a reply.
"New home?" I questioned.
"Yes..."
The shadow creature I had seen before appeared in front of my face and my eyes followed it. My head raised and it started to talk again. "We are known as heartless."
"Heartless?" I asked.
He nodded. "We used to be humans until we did something that caused our hearts to be taken away."
"I see..." I said, "And I'm going to become one?"
"... Yes..." he reached and my heart came from within my body and was in his hands.
I looked back up and my eyes were half-closed but turning into a yellowish color. My hair and skin color turned pure black. I curled up and began to shrink. My hair became shorter until it disappeared and antenna formed. My eyes opened and I was in a large dark room. The colors were mainly the color red, dark pink, purple, and black. "Another addition Maleficent," the heartless I met said.
He was now a little taller than me and still holding onto my heart in his hands. I looked up and saw a woman with an angry and evil scowl on her face. "She doesn't look too special," she said coldly, "You can hand he heart over and I'll put it with the others."
He hugged the heart. "No... I want to keep this one."
"Are you going to defy me?" she snapped.
"No, but I want to keep this heart."
She scoffed. "Very well, don't press your luck though, Jiji."
He bowed and left. "Since you're the newest, here's the deal: You listen and obey me and you sleep outside on the ground," she said in a demanding voice.
I nodded and looked away from her eyes. "Good, now get out of my sight!"
I ran out and came into a room filled with darkness and was full of heartless. I guess this is what I am now... I thought and then walked into the crowd.
The next few days were really sad and upsetting. I felt like crying most of the time from Maleficent's demands. Then, the day I felt like my heart was split in half was when Jiji left and never came back on a mission and Vivi left too, so I was beside myself and alone. I also felt torn apart because Jiji literally had my human heart. The closer I was, the more I felt whole, but now...
Then she forced me to invade Twilight Town with the other heartless because she hadn't gotten back from Vivi. And with that, we were sent off. The others listened and started to attack anyone that came by, but I stayed still in the alley, just wanting things to end. And through that... I met a kind human that gave me a name of my own... Ai... and that means love...
But, a few days later, I had to take his heart away reluctantly. I didn't really know him, nor did I like or love him, but I felt sorry that his life came to an end just because of me. I covered my small body with a leaf and closed my eyes. Heartless like me are useless...
Ai, the Heartless
That's my motto. I'll have to say that because I really have nothing to live for mainly. I should start from where it began though. It started all with that place...
Mainly, Tai and Sora would run into each other now and again, but I wasn't conscious of all their events, especially since I wasn't born. Tai'd get annoyed at Sora now and again for being like Goofy during fights, but Sora's big-toothed grin would always convince Tai otherwise and to start laughing.
Other than that, Tai never stayed around Sora for very long and would mainly stay within the town he woke up in. I believe it was called... Twilight Town. It's been a long time since I've been there though needless to say, I'm probably better off.
Tai was the type not to make friends too well because he never really smiled and appeared pretty cold to others. He carried around an odd keyblade. It didn't look anything like Sora's nor should I say it looked anything like Roxas'. It was pure black but it had a chain with a pink heart attached. He wasn't cold though. He didn't hate anyone. He didn't even like eliminating heartless. He was just himself... a somebody...
Could I say he was weak? Yeah, I could. He was weak of heart, but I'd have to say he was noble... He was too noble. He's a lot different from me, but... we are the same...
Tai was within Twilight Town, mostly checking out different things. He didn't have a job within this town he was just found in one day, but he made it by. One day was unusual though, I'd have to say it was the the exact same day Roxas disappeared completely from here and Sora was whole... while Tai disappeared... and I was born.
All over, there were odd-looking heartless. they had a different symbol on them and they were also fully white. But there were also regular heartless appearing in the dozens. Tai fought them with ease and was able to take most of them down, but he couldn't destroy one.
One quivered in the corner, it hadn't even tried to fight Tai or approach like the others. Tai approached the little heartless with his usual frown and held his keyblade to the heartless. It looked up at Tai but didn't attack and just closed it's beady little yellow eyes, waiting for Tai's finishing blow.
Tai couldn't deliver it and looked at the heartless with curiosity. "What's wrong? Why aren't you attacking?" Tai asked.
"Maleficent... She's so strict and cruel of everyone else that I don't want to listen..." the heartless told him, "I'd rather die..."
Tai looked stunned that a heartless was even doing this. Was it a trick? I thought it was, but I had no say in the matter. Tai picked the heartless up. "You don't deserve to die, no one does, except for the cruel," Tai said to the heartless.
It looked at the ground. "Then you should kill me... I was turned into a heartless because of my own actions. My destiny was already fated this way because of what I chose and yours is to kill me."
The heartless jumped out of Tai's arms and looked up. Tai put his keyblade up. "Not if I choose."
He picked the heartless up again. "It'd be nice to know your name," the heartless said.
"I'm Tai, what about you?"
The heartless looked down. "I don't have a name anymore."
"That's not right," Tai said, "... I'll call you Ai."
And with that, I'd have to say Ai became Tai's heartless. Ai didn't want to leave the other heartless with Maleficent, especially since she did make friends among the heartless. And others, like one heartless, Vivi, disappeared. I thought that Ai should've gone back to the heartless or Tai should've just gotten rid of that girl/it heartless. I wasn't in control though, nor was I born as I said. I was though... the next day.
Tai stayed within Twilight Town, but ran into a lot of heartless and the white heartless (lesser nobodies). Due to that, it was bound to happen, but Tai was ambushed by a lesser nobody. Ai was out of energy and would die if Tai didn't do anything. "I'm sorry Tai... I'm not really any help..."
Tai looked at Ai. "It's not your fault... If I'm going to die, you are going to live."
Tai pulled Ai in. "Take my heart, you'll have enough energy to escape."
Ai was shocked at what he just said and shook her head. "I couldn't..."
"Just take my heart. I'm going to die anyway, you at least deserve to escape."
Ai looked at Tai again and then reluctantly took Tai's heart and absorbed it. Thank you... and Ai disappeared.
She didn't see what happened next, but I admit, I have to thank the little blob. Tai gave his heart willingly and I appeared right there, but had no memory of that former life. The lesser nobodies crowded around me and I gave them a could glare. "What do you want?" I asked in a cold voice.
"Do you know why you are here?" one asked.
"No"
"Do you have a purpose?"
"No, I have none, I'm just here," I replied.
"Do you want one?"
I looked up. "No, I don't need one. There's no point. Everyone will live and die, but that's it. Nothing else comes of it. We on the other hand don't die until we are eliminated."
"Do you really think that?"
I didn't answer. "Do you want a purpose?" they asked again.
I was reluctant but shrugged and left with them. You can say a lot of things. I'm the opposite of Tai. I'm a part of him. He's a somebody while I'm a nobody. He died for a heartless to live and I was born because of that black blob. But... I have to say "You can either love me or hate me, but you can't choose both." if you think I'm just a cold-hearted bastard. It's your opinion, but I wish you don't think of me that way.
Xait (a Nobody)
A raven did its nightly call as a girl rocked herself back and forth singing a Halloween song, trying to calm herself down. The girl sat in a white sponge-like room wearing a straight jacket tossing, turning, groaning, and flinching at every sound outside her white cushioned prison. Her eyes were fixed at the door. She'd try and escape the mental institution that had kept her prisoner there, but every attempt was in vain. Those attempts led her to now wear a mask, to cough out her screams and cries. She once had blonde hair, but now it was a tangled rat's nest of greasy black. He's coming tonight. He said he would. I know it. But they think I'm mad, insane, crazy, and this paranoia has just been stuck in my head for that year. BUT I'M NOT! HE'S COMING! He's coming to finish what he started last Halloween and they say I'm safe. They try and reassure me, but I'm not. I know it. They are wrong! He'll come and he doesn't care who he'll have to get to as well. Even If I do escape, he'll find me, I know it. And once he finds me I'll... the white sponge-like door opened as if listening to her fearful thoughts Die...
~~~
It started out so normal last year. The girl I once was can no longer be the same after looking into the eyes of a murderous stalker. I never even suspected it would ever happen either...
"Maria, are you coming?" Rica asked, looking at her blonde friend staring at the storm clouds.
"Huh? Oh, yeah," I replied, quickly catching up with her and Luke.
"What are you planning to do for Halloween anyway?" Luke asked us.
"I plan on going out to do some trick-or-treating, how about you Maria?" Rica said proudly.
"I think I'm going to stay home with my family this year," I said, staring at the ground.
"What? Why?" Luke asked, trying to meet my gaze.
"I love Halloween, but I think I'm getting a little too old for i-" just then Rica slapped me (not hard though).
"You are never old for trick-or-treating and you are coming to my Halloween party at 8:00 tonight."
I almost laughed at how Rica was acting, but I nodded. "Yeah, I'll be there. In my Halloween costume too."
Luke seemed happier that I was getting excited about Halloween again. The conversation continued as we reached my house. "I'll be there at 8:00, but I'll have to be home by 12:00," I said, opening the door.
"All right, see you later," Rica said.
I turned to Luke. "How about you?"
He seemed to smile at my question. "I'm not going to be at the party, but you will see me tonight..."
"Good to know, well I'm going to get ready, later," I said, closing the door.
I ran upstairs, greeting my little brother with a pat on the head and rubbing my dog, Inu's, stomach. I left into my room and put on my gothic Lolita costume I was going to wear to the party and my parents came in. "You know I honestly don't like you wearing things like that," dad said sternly.
I looked down, but he put his hand on my shoulder. "But it is Halloween, so I'll let it slide," he grinned.
"You look so beautiful in that, I need to get my camera," mom said leaving the room.
"Mom!" I groaned.
My dad just laughed. "Don't worry, I'll help you escape without a picture getting taken. Come down in a few minutes so we can drive you over there," he said closing my door.
"Okay, dad."
After the door shut, I picked up my boots and started to tie them, but I heard this screaming sound and a dog's barking. I thought it was just kids getting scared, after all, it was Halloween, so I finished tying my boots, but I heard the scream again and it was not the sound of just short fear, but a shriek of bloody murder. Something was definitely wrong.
I opened my door and poked my head outside. It was quiet now, Inu wasn't even barking like usual. "Mom? Dad? Is everything okay?"
I heard no response and walked cautiously down the stairs. Once I reached the last stair, I saw bloodstained walls. It was so violent I couldn't even put it into words. I looked down and saw Inu, dead from a cut to his stomach. I covered my mouth and my eyes widened at the horrifying bloodshed I would only think would happen within a horror movie. "Don't be afraid, Maria... Everything's fine now..."
I looked up at the entryway with the most blood and saw Luke. His white shirt was stained with blood, as well as his hair, and he held in his hand a bloody knife. "It was only an accident... I tried to stop myself, but..." he laughed insanely, "Now there's just you and me left..."
He staggered towards me with that knife and I backed up to the door. "I'm sorry, my dear, but... I can't let you live... Once you're dead, I'll kill myself..." he said in a cold voice.
I opened the door and ran out. I didn't stop. I fell twice, but got up and ran. I never seemed to stop, but now...
~~~
Now, just like Luke's white shirt, the white sponge-like mental room was stained with blood. Maria was lying on the ground, eyes open, mouth open, and blood coming out from her mouth due to the stab wound in her stomach. The deed had been done. "I'm sorry... I never wanted this to happen... I just wanted to talk with your parents, but as they usually do, they tried to shoot me with a gun. I had no choice unfortunately," he said, looking at the bloody knife.
Luke laid beside Maria and stabbed himself. "I just wanted you to have a happy Halloween, I didn't want to hear those bloody screams..." he said, voice dying off.
The raven screeched at its perch and flew off into the darkness. The sad deed had been done...
