I sat against the wall of the cave next to Faye playing with Ruby while he played with Reath. Ari stood at the mouth of the cave watching for any signs of danger. We had been cooped up for days in this cave, and I was growing impatient.
Suddenly, Ari stiffened, as if sensing something. I frowned and stood up, making my way towards her. She waved me back and disappeared outside. When she returned, she held a long, black haired kid in her arms, which didn't allow him to move. All he could do was kick his legs around.
Ari set him down next to Faye and I. Ruby went up to him and started sniffing his jacket. I found that he was carrying a dragon's egg in his jacket, which he had been trying to hide with us. It was no doubt why Ari had allowed him to live.
"You have a dragon's egg!" I exclaimed, smiling up at him welcomingly.
He seemed a stand-offish, as if he wasn't quite ready to accept us, which was understandable, as I wouldn't trust complete strangers right off the bat anyhow. I needed to warm up to him, maybe then he'd relax a little.
"I'm Kia, and this is my dragon Ruby. That's Faye and Reath. And the one that caught you was Ari. We are headed to the varden. Where are you going?" I asked him kindly.
