Funny how that works.
Computer is back from the shop. Only thing 'done' to it was a diagnosis, so the guy told me there was no charge. That's always nice.
Problem is, as I originally suspected, an overheating graphics card. Solution is to get a PCI Express graphics card (which the guy told me; I forgot the Express part but Des remembered), which is looking to be about a sixty-dollar fix if I go medium-tier. (As in this, which is pretty nice comparatively but not completely insane. Insane would be in the neighborhood of $200.)
Before that, though, gonna see if someone I know has a spare PCIE card so I can test and see if bypassing the integrated card works. If it doesn't, I'll just need a new motherboard.
I also need Windows 7 because apparently Vista, which had been so nice to me for three years, decided to corrupt itself through its own updates (which was the reason I had to reformat the drive earlier this year), and I currently cannot open my own Device Manager. I can probably install the card, but I won't know what it is after I get it there. =P
On the bright side, Office 2007 FINALLY decided to install itself, so I have 22 more times I can open the program software before it borks itself again (unless I "activate" it over the internet or phone) because obviously legitimately buying the damned software bundle isn't enough. But now I have Word, so I can make posts. =)
