Additional Info
I was officially accepted and sworn into the service of the United States Navy on March 31st, 2011. That was a pretty awesome feeling.
I was also easily placed in the nuclear power program. As part of that, I was given a $12,000 sign-on bonus (taxable, of course), which will be given to me in two parts pending completion of various sections of my subsequent schooling.
However, my actual ship date is October 24th. The reason for this is because very few people are getting out of the Navy (ostensibly because of job security), and therefore very few people are getting into the Navy. So I have six months plus some change now to work on my physical condition prior to shipping out. Ideally I’d like to gain at least 15-20 pounds, just to make sure I stay above the minimum Body Mass Index (BMI) ratio of 17.9%. (I’m currently at 18.6.) But still, that’s a long time to have nothing to do.
However, as I’ve mentioned to a few people already, I have also just gotten hired on locally. The situation itself is pretty interesting; the shift leader for one of the Hardee’s locations in town was told that either she needed to hire four more people for her store, or she needed to quit her job. So she started looking for four additional people to work until the end of the year. My youngest sister’s boyfriend knew I was looking for work and gave me a heads up, so I went in to get an application, mentioning in the process who had referred me. After I left, the shift leader asked him if I’d be up for an interview later that day, so he secured me an interview no less than half an hour after I walked in. One mad rush later, I had a quick, five minute conversation with the woman, including details about the position, and was then told to come in Monday afternoon with pertinent ID, and Tuesday through Thursday for training modules.
I shall be working there as a biscuit-maker, with shifts starting at 4:00 am and going until probably about noon at the latest.
No more late nights for me. =P However, after six months of this, getting up in the morning for BT will be like sleeping in.
The part about how she only wanted people until the end of the year was pretty amusing to me. It was told to me later by the boyfriend, and since I’m only going to be here until the end of October, I figured this was a pretty made-to-order gig for me. I’m pretty thankful for it, too, because now I have something to do besides sitting on my ass all day.
Also I’ll be earning cash. I can finally go out on a whim and buy five CDs, eight books, two TV series box sets, and four video games, just like all of you!
Although I probably won’t.
