Today I was writing my homework out, and I noticed how my hand functions mechanically to create letters.
The point of the pencil is gripped between the pads of the thumb and middle finger. The middle finger does the majority of the work, making all the movements needed to create lines and circles and the big swooping curves that mark my lowercase Gs, Js ,and Ys; the thumb provides support and grip, mostly, following all the middle finger's motions.
The ring and last finger stack together, acting as a fulcrum for the pencil to pivot on when necessary, and also as a limiting device, restraining motion of the pencil to refine lettering strokes.
The index finger sets on top of the pencil, just behind the pincer-grip, providing pressure against the fulcrum to further refine stroke motions.
My wrist typically doesn't move. Movement along the paper is done either by my finger "assembly" or my shoulder shifting my arm sideways.
No real reason for this post. Just noticing things.
