New format! I mean, not here, but....

Blah. Anyway. New format for me. I have decided that I prefer having my keyboard in my lap. I shall look into a wireless keyboard here soon, since this cord is just long enough to not impede me, but makes it hard to scoot back from the desk. It also increases my typing speed, since now I'm not impeded by having to look at the screen to see my words, and can focus on the letter combination shapes.

Oddly enough, my typing set isn't standard. It's more of a "a-s-d-f, n-i-o-[". Maybe I should get one of those ergonomic keyboards to solve that issue.

Speaking of keyboards, I do realize that PC gamers might feel more comfortable with a direct y-axis, since it's more like their regular scrolling controls. But again, that goes back to the issue of dimensions. The mouse moves in two dimensions, we move in three. And even while I was playing LotROnline with my aforementioned MD friend, my mouse controls had to be inverted. But I'm not a huge fan of PC gaming, since the WASD system feels awkward. I don't feel right using it, and all those keystrokes I need to have available don't flow well with other control systems to me.

Now, I'm aware that given time, it would feel better to me, but you must remember that I understood the control system to StarFox 64 in about three seconds, so having to spend weeks learning a system that isn't intuitive seems worthless to me. The exception to this was Goldeneye: the C-pad was where I aimed, and up meant "look up", which I constantly struggled with. (I still struggle with it, and I can kick anyone's butt at it on License to Kill mode.)

Random message from my professor:

Ryan, Will & A_____,

The University Orchestra has trombone parts for the last concert for the semester and you’re the guys. Since we do not have a bass trombone player that is available at that time, whichever one of you that would like to can play the school Yamaha. Let me know if you want to be the ‘man with the horn.’ First come, first served.

So then, now I must decide whether to take that, since I know both of the others' have better upper ranges than me, or if I should bank on Will (one of our seniors) to take the spot, because I know he'd be "whatever needs to happen" about it.

But the upside is: another orchestral gig! I do miss being in an orchestra. 'Tis so much fun, even when I'm not playing.

Speaking of music and convenient segues, I have apparently addicted Utah to Nightwish. (^_^) Not that I mind. Solid, solid group.

And for non-sequiters, I was discussing combat/action/stuff with Indi this morning at about five, and I remembered a small short I wrote about two years ago for practice. Took about ten minutes to shift to Word (hooray for new typing format and coming full-circle), another ten to format, and I decided to show it to Indi and then toss it up over at OB. It's barely a quarter-page in actual content, but since that was the intent,I don't really mind.

I hope they switch the boiler over to A/C soon. They never do it on time, and I fear it'll get really warm around here soon. I hate waking up feeling grungy. Blah.

Time to go lurk some more.
