Point of Clarity: music

As I've probably said earlier, many many times, my musical tastes are quite diverse. I enjoy listening to almost anything, provided it is well done. This means that I must perceive a fair level of musicianship alongside a desire to make music, and not just sell.

Alongside that, if in your lyrics you feel you must rely frequently or regularly on profanity and otherwise coarse language, I will not respect you as an artist, ever. This caveat is the main reason I do not listen to rap; I don't feel it takes any inspiration to meet your syllable-rhythm by throwing down successive f***s, motherf***s, bitches, c***s, any combination thereof, etc.

I will tolerate it to an extent, such as in "Money For Nothing" when Knopfler uses faggot a few times. The difference between that usage and common use is that he was writing in character, and he didn't feel the need to rely on it to make a lyric fit.

Music is an Art form. And just like any Art medium, if you're only composing a work to please yourself or hold meaning for yourself, then you have already failed miserably at your 'craft'. Go home.
