Chapter 4

Celeste stopped as soon as she saw the figure. Had he seen her? Panicked, she searched desperatly for someplace, anyplace, to hide, but just as she was about to run the figure turned.
He was dressed in a long, dark cloak with a hood, so his face was hidden from view. All she could see was the light glinting from his eyes. Celeste gasped and turned to run again, but then the figure spoke.

"Celeste" he said, with mock surprise. "Going somewhere?"

His voice sent chills down her back, and it scared her so much she stopped, terrified to move. His voice... it was cold, chilling, powerful... and familier. Celeste took a deep breath and turned to face him. He'd taken off his hood, and as soon as Celeste saw him she gasped. Her legs wobbled from shock, and she struggled to right herself.

"Angelo...?" His fair hair, his cocky smile, his ice blue eyes... what was he doing here? Angelo, the son of one of the higher angels. Who's father had been friends with hers since forever. Angelo, the boy she'd known ever since she was little. And the boy who'd fallen for her, several years ago, and the boy who's heart she'd broken when she said no. And ever since that day, Angelo never spoke to her again. He glared at her when they passed; their friendship was over for good. So why was he here now?

"Hello, Celeste," he said smoothly, obviously at ease. "Why are you here? You just got a promotion- you should be celebrating."

"I-I just got lost" Celeste stammered, but she wasn't ready to play this game, of lying and story-telling, and it showed. Angelo's smile got wider.

"Really? It's rare for angels to get lost around here" he continued. "Most of them stay far away."

"Well, I-" started Celeste, but then she broke off. What was there to say? He knew. She didn't know how, but he knew. She dropped her head.

"How did you find out?" she wispered.

"Finally confessing, are we?" snarled Angelo. His smile was gone, vanished, and his cold blue eyes flashed with anger. "I've been watching you, Celeste. I see you sit at that mirror, watching him, gazing dreamily off into the distance- disgusting!" He spat at the ground. Celeste began to tremble.

"But how..?"

"How did I watch you without you noticing?" Angelo finished, glaring. "I can be very stealthy when i want to be, Celeste. Besides, you're so love-sick, looking into that mirror, that a doubt you'd notice if the entire court came in.

*No* thought Celeste desperatly. *No!* She was shaking harder now, and she was so scared she felt nausous. "What-What are you going to do with me?" she wispered, but she didn't want to know.

"That depends," Angelo snapped. But then, suddenly, his smile came back, this time sweet and enticing, and he stepped closer to Celeste. "I could forget the whole thing, say it never happened, if" he spoke lower, "you marry me."

Celeste's mouth dropped open. "W-WHAT?!" she cried.

"It wouldn't have to be right now, of course." continued Angelo. "We are both young, after all. What would people think? Instead, we would see each other for a while, the perfect couple, until we are old enough to be wed."

Celeste prayed it was a dream. "And if I don't?" she gasped.

"Then," hissed Angelo, "I will drag you to your father, the court, everyone, and tell them what you have done."

"You have no proof!" Celeste screamed, hoping that someone, anyone, would come save her.

"Oh, but i don't need proof," smiled Angelo. "I believe you remember that member of the court? You know, the one that can tell if an angel is lying or not? He's only used in extreme cases... such as this one."

Celeste gulped. She indeed remembered.

"So what will it be?" wispered Angelo.

Celeste closed her eyes. She opened her mouth, about to say the answer that would save her from the court, but her heart stopped her. Her love... she would never betray it. She opened her eyes.

"I will never, ever marry you!!!" she screamed. "I will die before i do!!"

The last thing she remembered was a glimspe of Angelo's furious glare, him raising something over her head(a club?), and then everything went black.
