"Boobs are not Art!" This is the name of a group I came across on DeviantArt. I've realized that for a lot of people, anime in particular has a bad reputation. Think about it: if you look up anime in a search engine (like Yahoo! with no filters on), you'll get a bunch of nude, busty women, or yaoi/yuri, or girls showing off their undies -- NOT COOL!
Do you really need all that to make an anime appeal to fans? Take Clannad for an example. As much as I may complain about it for making me cry, it's still on my top anime list. If I recall correctly, I think I've even heard it called "one of the most beloved anime of all time". It has tons of fans who love it. Why? It might have some mild "fan service", but it's known for it's great story and characters! (And on top of that, it's got lots of funny parts!) It's proof that you don't need dirt to make a successful series. You just need to know how to write a good story with good characters.
