Just another sleepless night.

((Gaara (who is mentioned in this) belongs to Masashi Kishimoto-sensei. All else is mine))

She's never been able to sleep. It drove her father crazy when she was an infant, her body's and mind's inability to settle down the sun went down, and rest and dream like the rest of humanity's. She quickly learned by the time she was four or so that no one would play with her when the stars were out, in fact they would yell and get mad at her. So she quickly got used to playing by herself all night.

So here she is, watching the stars slowly rotate around the sky from her bedroom window, biding her time until morning comes and people will be willing to talk to her again.

There was one boy she remembers that would play with her when the sun wasn't in the sky. A redhead he was, with black rimmed green eyes. She would trace shapes in the sand he gave her and sing up crystals. He would show her the secret places of the desert town he lived in. Sadly, her family left not three months after they started playing together, he looked devastated when she told him she had to leave. They hugged, despite her aversion to touching others and his protective, hovering sand, and she left that town the next day.

She sees a shooting star, and smiles at it, but does not make a wish. Those that she did wish on just ended up bringing bad luck to her. Finally she sees the eastern sky lighten, and she opens her window and climbs onto her roof. Down the street the baker is getting ready for the day. Cafe workers are moving tables and chairs out onto the patios. She watches the sun slowly rise over the horizon, then climbs back into her room to get ready for the day, as well as act as an alarm clock for her father and Uncle.
Another sleepless night is over with, and another day has begun. She hopes that it'll be fun.
