Chev looked at the girl slumped in the corner, her MP3 player blaring Korn, with little more than faint disgust. In her hand was a trembling pencil, busily scribbling away in her bound sketchbook.
"Is that all you ever do." The question was more of a half-hearted statement, directed more at himself than her. Phi paused the metal and looked up, bemused.
"Nopers. I can also eat, breathe, and sleep," she replied drily. "Wanna see what else I can do?" Chev put his head in his hands.
"We're supposed to be working," he gruffly sighed, running a hand through his ruffled black hair, highlighted at the ends with a fire-red color. Phi wagged a finger playfully.
"You're pretty cute when you're pi-" Her statement was interrupted by Chev's hand. "Mmmgrrphhh! Mmmmmnnngrrrlppphhh!!" she grunted unhappily, trying to escape. Her drawing forgotten, she kept her partner in a headlock.
"And you're a potty mouth! You're a lazy, useless, disturbing potty mouth! It's - "
"That's Disturbed, not disturbing," corrected Phi, who had finally wrestled out of his grasp.
"Whatever. It's like you're not even a human, the way you live." Phi rolled her eyes to remind him she wasn't a human. "And what kind of a name is Phi anyway?"
"It's Greek for wise, you dingdong!" chimed the Bannette which was their mascot.
"And what kind of a name is Chev, hmmm?" she countered.
"It's... uhhh..." Chev felt his face begin to redden. "It's Slavic for wasp."
"Really." Phi crossed her arms and he shrugged. "It's not even a good fake. Bannette," she now turned her gaze to the Pokemon. "Where'd you learn to talk? Especially in different languages?"
"For the last time..." the Ghost Pokemon growled. "My former life was a talking doll that could say 'Hello', 'I love you', and 'Mama' in sixteen different languages." It pulled a nonexistent string. "Bonjour!" it shrieked.
"Wow, I don't even know what to say," Phi murmured. "That is so weird." Chev ground his teeth in frustration.
"You guys are ALL weird!" he shouted. "How'd I end up with you guys, anyway? You're even nuttier than those three freaks that the top agents are always talking about."
"They are not freaks," Phi pouted somberly. "I myself prefer the company of beautiful people. The beautiful people, the beautiful people," she chanted ominously.
"I don't think that's what Marilyn Manson had in mind."
"Whatever." Phi flipped back her knee-length golden hair, covering half her face, remarkably like a cross between a porcelain doll and the supernatural.
"Remember back when we first met?" Bannette whispered. "We were all outcasts. We didn't even know each other."
"We still are outcasts. But at least we're friends with each other," sighed Chev, his red eyes somehow finding their way to Phi's icy blue one, and trying to find the gaze of the gentle green eye he knew lay beneath her hair. She turned away, and her own eyes began to tear.
"Yeah, I can't believe Giovanni chose us to be top agents. I was the most disrespectful little snot you could hope for." She sniffled and giggled in fond rememberance. "And in case you don't remember, you guys weren't exactly that big and strong back then, either."
"You were, though. You had to be taught to not accidentally destroy things," replied Chev. "Boy, did you know how to forge though. By the way," he added, "before you get too cocky, you still explode things from time to time."
Phi smirked in agreement. "Who can blame me? It's fun."

A dark gray wolf with black streaks through its coat looked back at the city it had just destroyed. Smoke billowed into the air as flames licked the clouds, trying to reach higher.
"My home..." she whispered painfully. A small whimper escaped from her lips, and she turned away, fighting back tears. The ruff on her head drooped down and covered one eye, leaving the icy blue gaze of the other to look around.
Suddenly she heard quiet sniffles and swiveled her head to see a lonely-looking doll.
"I... am... sorry, mistress. Please... come back..." The pleas turned to wails as a torrential rain poured down and the wolf cloaked her form.
The doll looked up to see a long-haired creature of the night leak out of the shadows. She waited for the worst as she picked her up in her arms.
The girl watched as slowly, the doll turned into a Bannette.
“It’ll be all right,” Phi whispered reassuringly, stroking its head. “Come on; we’re going to join Team Rocket.”
“But… my mistress… I hurt her psychologically… she abandoned me… I’ve got to get back and apologize so she’ll forgive me…”
“Wouldja GET OVER IT!” Phi shrieked. “I harm people like that everyday and besides – you’re not a doll anymore! You’re a Bannette!”
The Ghost Pokemon looked at itself, and then began to cry. Phi sighed.
“It’s okay, I shouldn’t have yelled at you.” She scuffed her feet a little and looked up. “I burned down the school so I’m skipping. Wanna come on a mission with me?”
Bannette looked away from the wall, tears still glistening in its eyes. Slowly, it smiled.
"Yeah."
