Today i will be explaining to you guys how to make a journal, an art journal. this can also help with art blocks too.
Document your complete thoughts using words and images
1. Idea/concept Direction and purpose of creating
*Whats and Whys of your artwork
also, what is the FOCUS/MEANING of your artwork?
- Expressive properties, use of moods, tones, and feelings.
(examples: Action, power, love, mystery, fantasy, melancholy, future, history, etc.)
*Write down everything in your journal that you will explore or want to
Step one is basically brain storming your ideas on what you want to do with your art work and it can be anything! just what down your thoughts basically brain storm! your mood can help or what emotions do you want to show.
2. Composition/ Principles - Thumbnails (show boundary of artwork) Placement and Relationship of Elements and Subject matter
*Wheres of your artwork
- Create the parameter and dimension for your art (with boundary on all side)
- Orientation: Portrait, landscape, square, tall and narrow, short and wide, circular
What is the FOCUS? Unity? balance? rhythm? pattern? contrast? emphasis? movement? this can be more than one
2 step is basically creating thumbnails of what you want to do with DIFFERENT compositions (i had a very hard time at this first apparently that was last year XD) but you do not have to do a focus if you don't understand this part unless you are really becoming an artist. I am not going to into much detail of principles of the arts because that is a whole new subject.
3. Elements/ skills/ techniques - Choice of media (values textures colors etc)
*HOWS of your artwork
What is the focus? - Line? shape? color? value? texture? space? form?
Step 3 is basically picking the media you want to use the focus of the elements i listed i will not go into great detail since that is a whole new subject too. But you can also practice that media you want to use too.
I hope this helps you guys but here is my example sadly i do not have the art piece that i can show you guys the finish project. and i bold the different sections ( idea compositions and elements)
