Tainted Wings

I told the girls that I actually lived by them so I walked with them home afterschool. I started talking with Megumi for a while and Haruka seemed perturbed. I understand because we are different in a unique sort of way. We stopped by an elementary school park and it was eerie quiet. We waved good-bye to Megumi because she had to go an opposite direction from here as the sun began to set behind the hills.

Truthfully I didn't live by the girls, I didn't even live in the area. I walked ahead of her and turned around. "Stop trying to hide it. I know who you truly are."

"What are you talking about? How I act towards everyone else?" Haruka answered wrinkling her brows in confusion.

"No, I mean by this." The blue jewel on my wrist began to glow as I was surrounded by a bright turquoise light. My ears became pointed and my pupils were slit with golden irises. My whole attire changed as I was wearing a red skirt and a top exposing my shoulders and toned stomach. I then smirked and my fangs were clearly visible.

"WTF?!" Haruka exclaimed as her eyes grew larger and jumped back a step.

"You're violating the contract by staying here without written consent from the Oligarchy of Suns." I said as I stepped closer.

"I have no idea what you are talking about," Haruka shouted as she started running to what I assumed to be her home.

Is she really that dumb? I'm a demon. She thinks she can outrun me? I caught up to her without breaking a sweat and dented the metal bench beside us until it touched the ground right in the center. "Stay still." Haruka nodded and stood still with downcast eyes. "Now that's better." I added. "As I was saying, drop the act."

First there was this eerie stillness then all you could here was the rustling of leaves on trees. She studied me and looked back and forth between me and her house. What I didn’t understand is that she wouldn’t transform like me but instead stayed in her weaker form.

“Like I said before, I don’t know what you are talking about. Why are you doing this to me?” Haruka shrieked.

There was something wrong. She is supposed to transform so I can take her in. Was I wrong? Was she really human? No. She wouldn’t even be wearing the bracelet if that was the case. It just makes the job easier if she just stands there. I grabbed her wrist and started to pull her toward me so we could get out of here because I doubt our arguing didn’t arouse attention. My ears perked up toward a house as my suspicions were confirmed. A girl who looked a lot like Haruka slammed open the door and started charging towards me. Cool, I got two for the price of one.

“What do you think you are doing?”

“I was sent from the oligarchy to weed out untitled intruders in the human world.”

“Intruders?” the girl repeated. “I think you got it all wrong. We are merely occupants. We have done nothing wrong.”

“Well then show me proof of this eligibility.”

We stared at each other for what felt like the longest time ever. There was something in her eyes that made me uneasy. What was she that would made me feel so unsettled?

“Hello? Yeah little old me over here. Can you please let me go now?” Haruka commented. I broke out of my trance and remembered my true objective. I was only supposed to grab the girl and go. The other one could wait.

“I’d love to stay and chat but duty calls,” I shirked Haruka’s demand and skillfully kicked behind her legs so she fell cradled in my arms and I started to make a run for the forest to the right of us.

“Oh no you don’t!” The girl retorted as she began to chase me.

There was a faint blue light behind me and a shadow overcast my body. So that's what she is, huh? I had an advantage in the trees and we were only a few feet away so I knew that she couldn't keep up with us long but my stupid hostage had to act rash and cover my eyes with her hands. I ended up tripping and we both fell over. I should rethink about how I take my captives next time. Tying her up would have worked a lot better in my favor. I felt a whoosh of air behind me and I could see Haruka cringing from the fall beside me. I got up and faced my opponent.

“Stay away from my sister. She knows nothing about this. Don’t get her involved.”

“I’m sorry but I think it’s a bit too late for that now.” I spoke.

“Ay—ako…” Haruka faintly whispered looking intently at her sister. “Is that really you?”
