Ok, so my boss's daughter really upset me and I would like to talk about it, so here it goes.
I was telling her- we will call her Tina- that my mom had made a joke about how I like foreign things. My mom had made the joke that I'm a white girl who has an asian best friend, a porto rican boyfriend, and a russian roommate. Race does not bother me. I could care less what color your skin is. I feel it is stupid to judge other people just because they have a different colored skin than you do.
I feel a person is a person and we all have feelings, can think for ourselves, and other such things. No one should say that because you are black you can't do this or because you are chinese you are this stereotype. I hate that. I don't think it is right.
Well, Tina was like, "Your boyfriend is porto rican? He isn't white?" "No, Tina, he is not white." Then she was all serious and said, "Than I shouldn't approve." She told me this a few days ago, and I still can't get over that.
I come from a small town where twenty years ago there were hardly any non white people living here. So, she grew up with only white people. Everyone in my town is extremely racist, and it bothers me so much.
I told my mom about it and she told me it was sad, but that I was going to be getting a lot of that if people saw me and my boyfriend together. That is such a messed up way of looking at people. Shouldn't just what is on the inside matter? Well, obviously not to the people of my town.
