FAILING AT UPDATING
Copying and pasting from emails sent to friends again b/c I'm totally supposed to be studying for a test right now:
Sept. 22: Shanghai went by with pretty much no real problems, though I did end up spending quite a lot of money... Right now is the Mid-Autumn Festival so everyone in China is relaxing and eating mooncake. My group doesn't have class for the rest of the week, and so most of us are traveling for the next few days. A friend and I are actually heading off to Beijing later tonight. Hoping this trip turns out as problem-less as the Shanghai trip (except this trip is already looking to be less expensive even though we'll be staying there longer). :)
Today: So the Beijing trip went by okay. We ended up only being able to stay there for three days total, so we didn't have the opportunity to see much... in the end, we saw the Great Wall, Tian'anmen, the Forbidden Palace, and the Olympic Park area. I really wanted to see the Summer Palace, but we ended up not having time to. ;__;
But. The friend who I went with was kind of a downer most of the time. Basically, China was different from what she was expecting and she isn't the adventurous type in the first place. So everytime there was any kind of setback or even a MINOR inconvenience she would act like things were terrible and that everything was so troublesome and being in China was so depressing blah blah blah. Every freaking day she would send texts and emails to this other friend of ours in this program, bitching about how terrible everything was when in reality things weren't that bad at all. By the end of the trip, I was so fucking annoyed with her. And I still am too because she's STILL acting like a total drama queen and does something that annoys me at least once a day. Like yesterday, when she couldn't find any vegetarian baozi at the baozi stand we went to for lunch, then got really frustrated and quiet, trailed behind my other friend and I when we were walking, then TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK TO THE DORM WITHOUT SAYING A WORD. And then earlier today, when she was in the middle of eating her meal, then the waitress came and rearranged something on her tray. And then she was like, "But it's more difficult to eat it this way..... everything here is so troublesome." Then got frustrated and quiet. DAMN, JUST REARRANGE IT BACK TO HOW IT WAS BEFORE. WHY IS THAT SO HARD??
But anyway. For some very good news, I have my first Chinese email buddy! I met him on the train ride back from Beijing. I gave him my email address and he finally sent me a message earlier today. <3
Also: going to Jay Chou's concert tom. night, heading to Chengdu this Sat., then the weekend after, I'm likely going to Shanghai again over the weekend to see JYJ for what will probably be all of fifteen minutes. Unless I try stalking them at the Shanghai airport, which is something I'm seriously considering.
What? >_>;
SMTown
Went to the concert in Shanghai last Saturday. Traveling to and staying overnight in Shanghai all by myself was interesting.
After seeing him in concert, I think I might be kind of in love with Jonghyun from SHINee. And I screamed my head off when Changmin and Yunho came out. I seriously think when they first came out, I might have been screaming for five minutes straight. I sort of... surprised even myself. >_>;;
Also, Changmin looked very good. Very, very good. :)
[/extremely truncated account]
EDIT: Oh. And BIRTH BY SLEEP ARRIVED AT MY HOUSE. RGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH CAN'TPLAYITINCHINA
Oh hell, while I'm here:
Watching this over and over and over. Fucking Jonghyun. Stop distracting me from my work. :(
China.
1) Sorry for not updating in forever.
2) There is way, way, way too much for me to talk about in just one post, so some really awesome and some not-so-awesome events will be sadly left out. :(
3) I'm kind of too tired to write a real post even now, so I'll just paste in an email I just sent to some friends in college:
So the last few days have been interesting. On Thursday, I had literally the worst class I've had in years. At one point, the teacher started laughing at me because I was the only one in class getting the questions wrong! ;_______;
And then right after class, we all headed straight to Xi'an. It started out normally, saw the Terra Cotta Warriors, ate lots of Chinese food, etc. But then on Friday, I went to a club with a whole bunch of people. Once it got past midnight, the others in the group gradually began to leave, but a friend of mine wanted to stay so I stayed with him. For some reason, he went effing crazy once everyone left and got super drunk... and at around 1AM, I was wandering around the club and realized I couldn't find him. I found and talked to two of the drunk ass Chinese girls my friend was dancing with, but they repeatedly told me that they "couldn't understand any of my Chinese." Umm, thanks? So I freaked out by myself in the club for half an hour before finally deciding to take a taxi back home.
Of course, the taxi cab driver ended up being a disgusting motherfucker who would NOT stop hitting on me even though I made it very clear that he was annoying me. Anyway, I managed to get back to the hotel safely, cursing all the way to the building, then freaked out in the hotel for a little while longer. At this point, the thoughts going through my head went something like: What if he got KIDNAPPED?? What if he's DEAD??? etc. etc.
Anyway, with the help of the Xi'an police, we managed to find him the next day. Apparently, he had wandered out of the club, took his shoes off before exiting the club for some reason, walked around shoeless in a nearby alleyway all night, lost his cellphone, his socks, and his belt somehow. He also pulled a muscle in his left thigh and doesn't remember how that happened either.
So yeah, it was a trip. Xi'an of all places ended up being shady as all hell.
9 weeks, 1 language... 4 crushes.
YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. I developed small crushes on four different people while at Middlebury, haha. They were all completely different, too, so now I have no idea what 'type' I'm attracted to. The only thing they had in common was that they were all good at Chinese, haha. By the time I got to Guy #4, I mentally facepalmed and thought, "I could crush on just about anyone, can't I???"
And Guy #4 is definitely the one I flirted with the most, too. (Probably because he very obviously liked me back, haha. Oh God, I sound like a harlot, just stringing men along or something.) It's so bad, since I'm not even sure I want to be in a relationship right now, and certainly not with anyone from Middlebury, but hey... at least it made my days more interesting, LOL. Good to know that I can flirt even when I'm not allowed to speak English. xDDDD
PUTTING THAT ISSUE ASIDE NOW. On a more serious note, the last day at Middlebury was interesting. After a one hour session with the kids in my level, which was spent reflecting on the summer and saying goodbye, we were allowed to speak English once it was over at 10:30 AM. I felt bad, since my favorite professor can't speak or understand spoken English very well, so she jetted out of there once the pledge expired and I didn't get the chance to say goodbye. ;__;
I ate lunch with everyone and said my goodbyes before heading off to the airport. I was particularly touched when saying goodbye to this one girl from my level. We saw each other around a lot, but never really hung out, so I honestly didn't think I could've made much of an impression on her. But when saying goodbye, she told me:
Her: You're so funny! When I first met you, I already knew, "This bitch knows what's down."
Me: Really?? But I'm so much funnier in English. If only..
Her: I think you're already funny enough in Chinese!
OMG. I honestly had no idea she liked me so much. Gah, I wish I had known earlier because I feel like I definitely would have made more of an effort to hang out with her... Well, at least now we're Facebook friends? ^^;;
Overall, Midd was definitely an interesting experience. I'm actually thinking that one day I might want to go back and enroll in the Japanese school... but that will be a long time in the future. And fyi, I've actually been back since Friday night, but was fairly busy and exhausted all of yesterday. Today may or may not end up being just as tiring. ^^;
Not sure what to do...
So I recently found out that both Yunho & Changmin and JYJ will be taking part in different music festivals in Shanghai WHILE I'M IN NANJING. I've heard Nanjing is only a couple hours away, so obviously I plan on attending. But there's the problem of getting tickets.
Thing is, getting anything mailed internationally is a huge pain, especially in terms of cost. I would rather pick the tickets up while in Nanjing if I can or have them mailed to my address in Nanjing, but it seems like I won't be told my mailing address until I'm on site.
When I go to order tickets, this is what the Delivery section looks like:
...So where exactly is the option to pick up the tickets at their office?? When I go to the Chinese version of the site, there are no International options and instead just have a drop-down list of Mainland provinces. :/
I don't want to wait another two weeks to buy the tickets, since I'm scared that the lowest priced tickets will be sold out at that point. (The lowest tier are over $50. WTF?? I thought China was supposed to be cheaper than America!) The tickets for the event JYJ is attending haven't been released yet, so maybe I can afford to wait. But SMTOWN... ;_;
