Summer Plan

Relatively big news! So starting on June 15th, I'll be off to Kenyon for six weeks on this summer enrichment program thing. I wouldn't normally do things like this, since I prefer being disgustingly lazy during the summer, but this program comes with perks!

  • Everything is free! :DD
  • I get paid $1000 by the end of it for some reason! :DDDDDD
  • I won't be so clueless about the campus and stuff once the new school year starts.
  • I now have an excuse for not getting a summer job. 8D

...But there are drawbacks too:

  • Half of the program centers around the learning and application of Math-related concepts. (EW.)
  • I'll have to do my own laundry and live with a roommate and stuff like a real college student. :((
  • We have these weekend excursion things, and one of them involves a ropes course. And I was all, "AWW FUCK, I SUCK AT THOSE THINGS." :((((
  • We also have to do internships around the campus, which shouldn't be so bad as long as I'm not stuck doing laboratory work. :(((

But otherwise, it should be okay. I'll still have internet access on the weekdays, though don't count on being able to contact me on weekends. You know, when I'm falling off ropes. DD:

Random fandom:

  • The people who want to see it probably already have, so I'll just say this: I like how the boys went to Shanghai and then suddenly became really slutty. Goddamnit, China.
  • And for the record. I made an account where I roleplay all the boys, not just one. So I think I still beat you in crazy points, Kimmeh. :3

Sentimental Mush

;_______________________________;

So I was watching SBS Star King. The MCs and the boys spent much of the interview talking about their experiences in Japan, both recent and when they were first starting out. And it was this part towards the end that I found most touching:

Jaejoong: with "O-Jung-Ban-Hab", we had achieved a grand slam at awards on all networks... But after that, not even a week later, we went to Japan, and at a university hall. In front of less than 100 people.
Yunho: in a way, we got popular faster than expected, but when we went to japan... at 1st, there were things that didn't work out even though we tried so hard. Even the language... we wanted to do so well, but... no matter how hard we worked, it wasn't easy to get good opportunities...
Junsu: actually, until we performed at budokan, about 2 years (after first arriving in Japan), we didn't know why we had to work in japan. To be absolutely truthful, there was a feeling that we did it only because we were told to. And all 5 of us even talked seriously about giving up. But we were lucky enough to meet a great staff, and somehow we got to budokan. And when we were singing the finale song, all 5 of us felt the same thing: "let's try it once."
MC: "we can do it."
Junsu: "let's give it a go." We didn't know how far we'd reach... We even knew that where we were could be as far as we could go, but let's do our best. We felt this for the 1st time. And all 5 of us thought, "let's try it. Let's pursue this until the end." (translation from here)

They've mentioned it before, how difficult it was adjusting in Japan when they barely knew the language and when very few people even knew who they were, but never in nearly this much depth.

It's little things like this that remind me why, exactly, I've stuck around this fandom for so long; because even though I spend 99% of my time on here & LJ fangirling over their looks or YunJae or Jaejoong's arms or whatever, I sincerely do have a tremendous amount of respect for the boys. They're strong people, much stronger than I; they've all been through so much, but they never let themselves be defeated by those experiences. They seem almost untouched by the stark ugliness they've encountered over the years, and I can still very clearly see the bursting, twenty-something-year old boyness in all of them underneath their glossy exteriors. They're so alive in a way that so many people, celebrity or not, just aren't, maybe never will be.

This concert finale, the one mentioned in the interview, is that much more meaningful to me now. Gah, I don't know. I love them. ;___;♥

How My Sunday Went:

1. Gee, I should probably get around to working on my Psych project due on Tuesday now.
2. ....What do you mean I need a copy of an article from the Northeastern library??
3. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT LIBRARY IS CLOSED UNTIL TUESDAY??
4. SHIT.
5. OMG I'M AN IDIOT.
6. OK CALM DOWN. THINK.
7. Maybe I can just use something from Chicago public library's internet database...?
8. "Mom, can I borrow your library card for a second?" 8D
9. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE CARD IS RESTRICTED.
10. BECAUSE I HAVEN'T RETURNED THAT ONE OVERDUE BOOK??
11. AND THE LIBRARY I NEED TO RETURN IT TO IS CLOSED UNTIL TUESDAY TOO??
12. GODDAMNIT.
13. GODDAMNIT.
14. GODDAMNIT.
15. I'M SCREWED.
16. I'M SCRE-oh wait, I can just finally get my own library card and use that. 8DD
17. *walks to Sultzer*
18. "...Do I really need to walk back home just to retrieve a bill? I swear this is my address!" T_______T
19. *takes the bus back home; screw walking!!*
20. *walks back to library and finally gets the stupid card*
21. You know what. Even though my mother is going to get pissed at me for not telling her beforehand, I'm going to go watch Indiana Jones at the Davis. Screw the consequences! I'm young! It's the summertime! Live, damnit, live!!!
22. *goes home afterwards and finishes stupid project*
23. THE END.

OR IS IT.

~On Monday early evening while walking with a friend~

"Gah, I still have to work on my Phase V for Psych. What are we supposed to do for that again?"
"Umm... write about therapy recommendations and rejections, a reflection on the project, and a reaction to the journal article."
"But I heard that we didn't have to do that journal article...?"
"..........What."
"Yeah, because we didn't do a class trip to Northeastern, so she said just to forget about it."
"..............I hate everyone."

New Single!! & Cutesy Asian Girl Mannerisms

HOLY SHIZZZZZZZZAAAZAFDGDFGD. I was all, "Bah, I'll just post later," but then I heard this, and I was like, "SCREW THAT, I'm posting NOW!!!!" This song is sooooo pretty. *~*

I'm glad that Avex is finally giving the boys Japanese songs that aren't just generic J-Pop, since IMO, that sort of music never really suited them anyway. And their Japanese is getting SUPER good. wtf I hate them. ♥

So yeah. About those girly mannerisms. Based on my observations (because of course, it's a very scientific process), I've begun to think that there are some quirks that are inherent and widespread amongst Asian girls. Or to widen the generalization, amongst Asian people in general, since the boys do them too. o_O;

The Evidence

  • Item #1, covered laugh: Self-explanatory.
  • Item #2, the squinty-eyed smile: Okay, so a lot of non-Asian people probably do this too, but I think it's especially noticeable with Asians because of eye shape. I mean, just look at Jae. That is just too cute. They even have a nickname: slits of mirth. :DDD
  • Item #3, fists-to-chin (also demonstrated in above gif): This is something I only do to my mom, whenever I feel like being overly-cutesy. :DD
  • Item #4, the cheek poke: I don't do this so much anymore, except to random friends and my little cousins, but when I was around freshman age, I used to poke people's cheeks all the time. And sometimes they'd be like, "...Why do you poke people all the time?" and give me the o_O face.
  • Item #5, the angel pose: Sorry Junsu, but I must expose you. He totally stole this pose from me from when I was a child. Because I did this pose ALL THE TIME when I was a kid, especially to an older cousin of mine who got freaked out because I did it literally every time I saw her. So yeah. As long as Su admits that he copied, then the two of us are cool again. 8D

Also, just because Kimmeh started it: HERE'S A WONDERFULLY FUNNY PHOTO OF THREE OF THE DBSK BOYS. :D

Food & Smut

So over the past two days, I've had a Korean meal, a pancake & waffles party, green tea, Chinese food, Japanese food, Thai food, pierogies, fancy salads & pastas, and warm apple pie with ice cream. And these are the things I learned! :DD

  • I am more-or-less accustomed to that red spicy soup that seems to be present in all Korean dishes ever created.
  • The weirdo pickled Korean vegetables are still too, umm... ethnic for my tastes. Yes. And why do they put ginger on their salads?? That is gross. DDDD:
  • Never much of a pancake fan, but now I know that pancakes are infinitely more enjoyable when lathered in melted chocolate.
  • I'm forcing myself to start getting used to the taste of green tea. Though I ended up gulping it down just to empty the cup and get it over with. xD;;
  • I literally cringe when I eat blue cheese. D:
  • White clam sauce has no flavor. D:
  • It's perfectly OK to leave food on your plate when the servers give you way too much damn food in the first place. Let's all learn to eat less, like the Europeans! :DD

So yeah. Thanks to everyone who sent me birthday greetings yesterday! I will now rejoice in the knowledge that this:

...Will burden me no longer. 8DDD
