Most people like ANBU and Central Anime. I'm impatient, so I usually watch the crappily edited, translated-from-Chinese releases that come out faster. >_>;
I can't guarantee that you'll like it as much as I do, but... well, yes, it really is that good. (The anime bloggers I've read who watch it seem to like the show a lot too, so it can't just be me!) I'm also very biased because it's the only series this season that hasn't majorly disappointed me in some way (*pointed pout at Eden of the East*), and went from being a show I wasn't planning to watch at all to what is easily the series I look forward to watching most each week.
The show is only really half about baseball and half about the characters' personal lives, but each part is done equally well. I'm not a baseball fan at all, but I find the games really exciting. I also like how (unlike Prince of Tennis) there aren't any crazy, physically impossible crap happening on the field, but the tension is still kept high throughout each game.
There are pretty long breaks between each big tournament/match, but it never feels like filler. Each lead character and their relationships with each other are so interesting that, even when chapters and chapters in the manga go by without anything baseball-related occurring, I never skip past chapters. The off-season bits seem just as important as any of the baseball games, which is the sort of balance that I think is pretty uncommon in these types of shows.
I wrote this post right when a veeeeeeery intriguing new character was introduced in the manga... so needless to say, I was pretty excited. ^^;

Interesting. I might as well plunge right in and give a shot!
EDIT: Also, assuming you watch fansubs, do you have a recommendation for a particularly good subbing group? :o

That is one of the series I haven't even touched this season. Is it really that good?

o3o... That was a forceful statement. ^^
I feel the same about Princess Nine. Not really a baseball fan, but I love the show.
