I am entered in a State-wide poetry contest. I wish to get feedback about my poem, so I'm posting it ^^
Dreaming
Sitting at a cold desk,
Vandalized light tan with a blue chair,
The dull roaring of the AC,
I feel trapped,
No way to adventure.
Isolated.
But one day I’ll go.
Lungs bursting on stage,
Or fingers smacking strings.
Helping wings spread to fly,
Or planting seeds in young minds.
Free.
But how?
My parents are not rich,
Nor could I risk
Straying from home.
My parents couldn’t let me,
My colleagues would down me,
Crushing my dreams,
Bringing me despair,
And tying my wings together,
So I cannot fly.
Impossible.
And yet some still cheer me on,
Letting me venture out to sea.
But they tether my boat to shore,
In case a storm blows by.
To let me live my dreams
If only for a moment.
Possibilities.
I pull back my mind,
Staring at my notebook,
Smirking,
Knowing one day,
It’ll be me.
The one who goes farther,
The next Rosa Parks,
The one who paints the Mona Lisa,
The new voice on the radio.
Finally.
And who would imagine
That girl, one day,
Sitting at a desk,
Vandalized light tan with a blue chair,
The dull roaring of the AC,
Feeling trapped,
With no way to adventure.
