The Light

I knew she was there. And that she was older than me, which made her stronger. She seemed to want to be left alone. Hopefully she stayed away. I was not in the mood to tangle with her. Jessica had gotten quiet. I wonder how funny we look. She was taller than I was after all. I knew that female was heading the same way we were. She made me nervous. I noticed it was getting later. I was going to have to stop soon. I found a nice spot not far from the road and sat Jessica down. This would have to do. At least there was a cave. I sighed. "What's wrong?" I shook my head. Truthfully I was worried about that female. I was old but the sun still hurt me. She might be old enough that it does not matter. "I'll be right back." Jessica nodded. I stepped back into the shadow of the trees and jumped up into tge tree branches. The female vampire sighed. "All I want is to be left alone, but you just had to jump up here." I smiled. "Your presence was irritating me. I'll be going to sleep soon. I just wanted to be sure Jessica will still be alive when I wake up." She shook her head. "Your slave? You other vampires disgust me. The humans disgust me as well." I nodded. "I don't care either way either normally. Just as long as you don't plan to hurt her." She looked confused. "Why do you act like you care?" I growled at her. "Not all vampires are alike. I happen to care about my friends!" She smiled. "Friends huh? Interesting....I promise you no harm to the girl. I just happen to be going the same way you are." I nodded, and jumped back out of the tree. Jessica looked up when I stepped back into the camp. "Sorry about that...I had some business to take care of." I sat down next to her. I still had some time before I had to sleep. "I sleep during the day. So you have to be careful. The older the vampire the less the sun hurts. Something to do with the original strand of the vaccine. So don't think just cause it's light out you're safe." She nodded. "I will be careful." I nodded. The sun was starting to come up. I kissed the back of Jessica's hand. "Good day then." I headed deep into the cave and fell asleep.
