Tokyo's Wonder Festival 2009 Winter Cancelled
World's largest garage kit event dropped due to last summer's escalator accident The executive committee of the Wonder Festival garage kit convention has announced that its next event, which was scheduled for February 15 in Tokyo, has been cancelled in the aftermath of an escalator accident last August. As the world's largest garage kit event, Wonder Festival is held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center twice a year with many models based on anime, manga, and game designs. However, 10 attendees of Wonder Festival 2008 Summer were injured — none seriously — on August when a four-floor-high escalator stopped without warning and changed direction. The cancellation of the February 15 event was caused by the continuing investigation into the accident's causes. Wonder Festival's executive committee is working to bring back the event as soon as possible.
