My roommate's boyfriend lent me the entire Blue Gender series. I finally got around to watching it over the weekend. Actually, it wasn't so much "getting around to it" as it was "I was bored and didn't want to do anything." Anyway, I wasn't really into it at first. It was one of those "whatever, okay" feelings and I was thinking too much about how he shouldn't be able to run like that immediately after he wakes up from being frozen for 20 or so years thank you very much. I actually liked it a lot, though. I think I only realized how much I liked it once it was over XP I was very happy with the ending. It was happy, but I'm talking more along the lines of it being satisfying. I don't know why, but it feels like I haven't watched any anime or read any manga that had a satisfying ending lately. Granted, I don't really have a lot of spare time to watch or read right now, and when I do get around to spoiling myself, it's usually with some ongoing series, but still. One thing I noticed about it, though, is that the characters all seemed to be thinking along the same two lines: killing the Blue (mutant bug-like enemy creatures) or sex. The whole issue with the Blue is the basis for the story, so it's understandable, but for some reason, sex always seems to pop up somehow. Nothing incredibly graphic, a lot of the time it's the situation they're in and how they're reacting to it (or straight up asking for sex, though not in those words exactly). Now I"m wondering why I'm even bothering to mention it, since it doesn't bother me and I don't really care. It's just an interesting observation, I guess. Whatever.
The point is, Blue Gender is really good. I liked it a lot. It's underrated. Go watch it. Unless you're under 16 or something. Because of the sex, though you don't actually see anything, and the one major scene is focused more on the feelings of love between the two, rather than the physical standpoint. But there is a LOT of skin throughout the series. And violence. And gore. But the violence and the gore is the fun part.... so, yeah.
