Tainted Love

It was a cold, lonely dark night. It had just rained. The dark clouds constantly swiring around made it clear that there was more rain to come. The moonless night showed no sign of ending. Samantha walked down the street, alone as usual. Her footseps seemed to echo more than usual. This was no echo. It was off. Samantha turned around, her long blond hair whipping through the tense humid air. Her green eyes searched for a sign of re-assurement.

For what? Re-assurement that she was alone? That no one was behind her? Or that there was some one else present? Some one to walk with her? Some one to save her? Or just something, just to know she's not loosing her mind. To know that she's sane and not hearing things.

Samantha felt her heart start to beat, and she felt the chemical rush through her body. Suddenly, as if her legs had a mind of thier own, she started to walk faster. and faster, and faster, and faster, until she got to the point where she didn't car if her jewlery was falling off of her, as long as she got away. She stopped in the middle of a street and turned around. No one. Nothing. Not even a stray cat. Just shadows of signs, bulings, and garbage cans.

"Samantha, you need more rest, I do agree, however, school is not the place nore is it the time for it." Samantha's science teacher, Mr.Hellens, said after slamming his ruler on her desk just to wake her up. "Y-Yes sir." She suddenly felt that all eyes were on her. She slouched down in her chair, and let her hair fall from her shoulders to infront of her face, allowing no one to see her shaken form.

As her teacher continued on with the lesson, Samantha Still couldn't help to think about last night. She had the same feeling right now. She knew, that obvioulsy, she was not alone. She was in a classroom full of at least 28 kids. Everyone was. So, why is this feeling here? Samantha reached for her machanical pencil, only to realize that her shaking hands made it fall. The bar on the left side of her desk made it impossible to reach it. A tall boy with blond hair and borwn eyes grabbed the pencil and handed it to her. "Here you go." he said. "Th-thanks, Aurthur."

Aurthur Reynolds is a boy that has liked Samantha since the 6th grade. She knew, but she never returned the feelings. She told him a lot of times that she did not feel the same, and that she was sorry. Then he started to harrass her. He seemed obsessed. He would always ask her out, get two inches from her face and ask for a kiss, grab her ass in the hallways, ask people to push him into her, brush against her hand (wich he had done while handing her her pencil), and od anything to talk to her-even ask the dumb questions that they both knew that he knew the answer to. Sometimes, he'd even go to the extent of fallowing her home to ask her out.

By the time it was luch hour, wich was, for Samantha, lunch B, she had hardly noticed. Samantha wasn't paying attention in school, only to what the strange feeling of being watched was. "Sam!" Robin called to her. Samantha jumped, spilling her milk a bit on herself. "Oh, honestly." Robin took her napkin and cleaned Samantha up. "I'm not a baby." Samantha said to her best friend. "No, but you sure are a messy eater." Robin was in the same home room class as Samantha. She had long brown hair, and brown eyes. She usually wore a red flowey shirt with jeans, and red flip-flops. Not always the same shirt, they were just all similar. And today, Robin had red hairband at the root of her bangs. "You look cute today, Robin. Is that a new outfit?" Samantha commented. Robin stammered a bit at first before responding, "Y-Yeah. It is. Th-thank you. Thanks." She said, smiling."Do you need any help with the unpacking today?" Robin asked. "No, I finished last night. I just went to the store last night to get some milk so that way my fridge didn't seem so sad and lonely without anything in it." Samantha had just moved out of her parents' house and into a small apartment just a few weeks ago. Unfortunatly, the first one to know about it was Arthur.

After school, on the way home, Samantha felt as if she was not alone. She began to rule out the possibilties. Ghosts, was a definite not, seeing how Samantha was an atheist. The possibility that a family member was in her small apartment with her: none. She couldn't think of any reason to be feeling this fret. She tried to brush it off, and began working on her paper some more. A paper about Parasites. Samantha felt her heart race, and her palms sweat. She still couldn't shake off this feeling. She suddenly felt something grab onto her leg. She screamed, and jumped up from the chair. She looked down, to see nothing. She looked all around the room to find a shadow running towards the living room. She fallowed the shadow, and saw it behind the couch. When she looked behind it, she couldn't believe her eyes.

"Princess!" She shouted. It was her white long-haired cat with her blue colar. Inside of the colar was a note. Samantha removed the note, and read it:

"Sam, for making being able to afford an apartment, a car, and hold down two jobs at once, I congragulate you. Take your stupid cat with you.

with love, Dad."

Samantha's dad hated her cat. She was old, and didn't like people all to much; children especially, but every now and then she was in the mood to be playfull and attack anything and everything. Especially corner stairs. When Princess wanted something, she would usually rub up against something or some one, meowing until she got what she wanted. Wether it be food, water, or to go outside. Princess had been a member of the family for years, and Samantha found herself to be fond of the creature.

The phone suddenly rang. Samantha had not given her phone number to anyone, not even Robin. Probably just a telamarketer. Samantha tried to brush it off. But the phone kept ringing, and ringing. Eventually it went to voicemail. Then the phone kept ringing. And ringing. And ringing. And ringing. Until finaly, with her palms sweating, and her heart racing, she picked up the phone. "What? Hello? Who is this? Hello?" No answer. "Hello? Hello? Is anyone there? This isn't funny." Still no answer. "I'm hanging up now." Samantha said, her voice still shaking. She suddenly heard breathing. "H-Hello?" Then the line went dead. She was shaking, scared. But she just brushed it off as a few dumb kids playing pranks.

On her way from school the next day, she still felt like she was being fallowed. At lunch that day, she gave Robin her phone number, expecting a call tonight. Samantha opened the door to her new apartment, and found her cat rushing towards her, rubbing against her. "Are you hungry, Princess?" The cat let out a small meow. Samantha walked over to her cabinet, and grabbed a can of tuna, and put it in one food bowl, and set it on the counter. She then opened a drawer, and grabbed a bag with green crushed up leaves in it. She grabbed the leaves, and then sprinkled it on top of the tuna. Then she reached in the cabinet for another food bowl, and put some cold water in it. She set down the water bowl first, to a wall, a few feet from the refrigorator. Then she put the food down next to the milk, to see Princess eating the second she put the food down.

Samantha then went to her computer, and checked her e-mail. She had 462 unread e-mails. When she clicked on 'check inbox', she realized that they were all from "[email protected]", all with no subject. Samantha has never heard of this person before. She clicked one one of them.

"I know where you live."

Samantha felt her heart drop. She clicked 'delete' and the next e-mail automaticly came up.

"I know where you are."

Samantha once again, deleted the e-mail. By then, her heart was racing, her stomach was turning, and her eyes were wide.

"I know where you sleep."

Delete.

"I know that your in school."

Delete.

"I know your schedual."

Delete.

"I know your name, Samantha."

Delete.

"I can feel you, Samantha."

Delete.

"I can smell you, Samantha."

Delete.

"I can see you, Samantha."

Tears started streamming down Samantha's face. She was shaking all over. Samantha had had enough of this foolishness. She printed out the e-mails, and went to the police. The policeman looked through the e-mails, and then looked back at her. "You know those chain letters?" he asked. "Yes." Samantha's voice was shakey, and she sniffled. "Some one probably just got a hold of your e-mail adress from those, and started messing with ya. It's probably just some punk kid." he tried to re-assure her. Or was he trying to blow her off? "And the phone calls?" he asked. Samantha took out a piece of paper with all of the phone numbers that have called her, and handed them to the police officer. "These are all different numbers." he said. "I know, but they're the same person, I know it! They were all consecutive, and they all said the same thing!" she insisted. "What did they say?" he asked. "Nothing." She began to cry even more. "He didn't say anything. That's why I'm so scared." "Look, lady. These phone calls don't seem too convincing. And that makes me think these e-mails are fake." he said, frowning at her. Samantha's eyes widened. He..Can't be serious... Can he...? "Officer, no! You have to believe me! Why would I make this up?!" Samantha began to protest. "Look, ma'm. You've had a long day. Get some rest." The man escorted her out of the buliding, and closed the door. He... He didn't believe me...

On the way home, Samantha's cell phone began to ring. She looked at it, and it was an unkown number. She answered it, and screamed, still crying. "What do you want from me?!" There was no silence. A small females voice responded:

"You."

Samantha hang up the phone, and threw it against the ground, allowing the device to shatter into pieces. She ran home as fast as she could. She locked all of the doors and the windows. She closed the blinds, and turned the lights off. She hid in a corner of her room. Little did she know, it was too late to hide.

Samantha heard some one walking around the apartment. She put her hand over her own mouth, trying her best to prevent any sound. A light turned on, and Samantha saw Robin, tears in her eyes. "Robin! You scared the shit out of me! Ar-Are you okay? Robin...?" Robin stood, with her hands behind her back. "Robin...what's wrong?" Samantha got up and wrapped her arms around Robin, and asked: "Whats wrong?" Robin whispered:

"If I can't have you, no one can."

Samantha's eyes widened as she felt the knife go deep into her back, and she fell to her apartment floor, dead.
