Oh Hyun-kyu, who was evaluated as one of the next-generation strikers to lead Korean soccer, will quit his career at Celtic Scotland for the first time in two years and start anew in Belgium.
Belgian professional football KRC Genk announced on the 15th that Oh Hyun-kyu has joined the club with a four-year contract. Genk's transfer fee to Celtic is known to be around 4.5 million pounds about 8 billion won. "Henk is a team with a lot of experience in developing young players," Oh said. "I can't wait to show myself on the ground."
Torsten Fink, who will lead Oh Hyun-kyu at Genk, is a coach who has coached Son Heung-min Tottenham Hotspur and Park Ju-ho retired. Fink coached Park Ju-ho at the Basel Switzerland in 2011 and actively utilized Son at the Hamburg Germany in the 2012-13 season. He also appointed Lee Jin-hyun Puschha Niepourmiche as an intermediary in Vienna, Austria in 2017.
Oh Hyun-kyu, who left Suwon Samsung for Celtic in January last year, scored seven goals in the 2022-23 season and five goals in the 2023-24 season. However, as Adam Aida, who played for Norwich City England, was recruited in January, his position declined, so he was only substituted for one game until the end of the season.
Genk finished fifth in the league with 16 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses last season.
