Gangwon, Jeju maintain COVID casino protocols until Jan. 16

Kangwon Land (photo), the only game venue in Korea that allows Koreans to bet, will operate until January 16 by limiting casino operation hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. due to COVID-19 measures.

The current limited time was introduced on Dec. 18, according to an official from resort operator Kangwon Land Inc., in response to GGRA's phone inquiry on Friday.

The measures are in line with the South Korean government's announcement on Friday, extending the country's current social distancing rules until Jan. 16.

The local government on South Korea's holiday island of Jeju also announced on Friday that it would extend the current conditions for casino access until Jan. 16. All customers must provide proof of full vaccination or a valid 'negative' COVID-19 test for COVID-19.

The Jeju government is semi-autonomous and has its own regulatory system for foreigner-only casinos based on the island.

Representatives from Landing Casino and Jeju Dream Tower Casino said Friday they were officially notified to GGRA of the extension of admission rules.

Landing Casino is located in Shinhwa World, Jeju, a real estate of Landing International Development Inc., which is listed in Hong Kong. Jeju Dream Tower is operated by Lotte Tour Development Inc., which is listed on the Korea Exchange.

Currently, only Paradise Casino Jeju Grand, run by Paradise Inc., which is listed on the Korea Exchange, is operating in Jeju among the eight casinos. The company said it had not been notified of the extension of its entry conditions as of Friday afternoon.
