Continued from: Fearful:
Kita lay under Orihime’s canopy of golden light. Turning her head slightly she could see Orihime sitting next to her. Her face contorted with anger, fear, pain, and sorrow, but below that Kita could see more. There was hope, love, faith, and a strong heart. Kita reached toward Orihime touching only the golden light around her. It tingled against the flesh of her fingertips, and she could feel Orihime within that light. All she was, all she is and the strength of her heart flowed through that light more than any one force Kita had ever felt from a human.
“I am sorry, Orihime,” Kita spoke to her in a weak voice.
She watched as Orihime shook her head, “you have nothing to be sorry for, Kita. I know it is Aizen’s fault for the way you are. He trapped you in this arrancar form, and I have to reverse that now that I have you here.”
Kita shook her head, “Orihime please let the gods deal with this. Don’t put yourself at risk to change me back.”
She shook her head again looking down at her lap, “Aizen has ordered me to change you back to your seraph form. If I don’t it means both our lives.”
Kita sat up under the canopy and looked at her, “he is bluffing, Orihime. Don’t listen to him. He needs us both for his plans to move forward. He is not going to kill us. If he was going to do that he would have left me to die and not had me brought here.” Silence fell between the two, “trust me Orihime, he is not going to kill either of us. Not now. Not ever. Because we will both be free of Las Noches before our usefulness is ended.”
Orihime was stilled worried and Kita could see that on her face, “trust me.” Kita told her, her tone softer as she touched the wall of the canopy once more.
Orihime lifted her head looking at Kita; her smile was warm and a bit more relaxed. She could feel Kita’s energy surge through her powers. It was warm, tender and safe, but there was something else Orihime could feel. A feeling she had never encountered. It was a burden. One that only a seraph would know. A burden that weighed on Kita like a brick. A brick that would crush anyone one else. And that brick: Was knowledge. That power of knowledge that coursed through Kita was enough to cause Orihime to drop the canopy around Kita and grip at her own arms as they crossed over her chest. Kita reached out and touched Orihime’s shoulder as she felt her tremble under her touch.
“Orihime!” Kita exclaimed softly, “Are you alright?”
Orihime shook her head, “I only got a glimpse of what you know, Kita, but it was enough to send a stream of fear through me.”
Kita sighed and gave her shoulder and firm but gentle squeeze, “Then you understand why I need to stay in this form. It is the only defense I have against Aizen. I would be easy to break if I were in my seraph form. As an arrancar it blocks what I know and he can never get his hands on it.”
“How is that?” Orihime asked.
Kita smiled, “The stronger I become as an arrancar the more my memories are blocked.”
Orihime looked at her confused. Kita smiled with a small laugh and explained.
“When a seraph is created they are but of one spirit. When another spirit or soul is forced into the seraph’s being it closes off and the stronger the outside spirit becomes the more the seraph spirit is shut down.”
“So when you are born as a human the human soul takes over your seraph soul and the more you grow and learn as a human the more your seraph soul disappears?” Orihime questioned.
“Sorta,” Kita told her, “I never lose my seraph soul. It just…” Kita paused for a second and thought, “the human soul conceals it to keep it and its knowledge safe from people like Aizen.”
“And that is what the arrancar soul is doing to it now?” Orihime asked with a nod.
Kita smiled and nodded, “Yes, that is exactly what the arrancar soul is doing, and taking me out of this form makes me vulnerable.” Kita lifted her hand touching the choker around her neck, “Kisuke created this to keep the attitude side of the arrancar in check. It seemed from Kisuke’s point of view I was getting rather mean.”
Orihime’s eyes widened a bit as she nodded at Kita. Kita laughed softly, “I am sorry Orihime.”
With a bright cheery smile Orihime giggled, “It’s alright, like I said I know its not you.”
The two laughed at their situation for a moment then grew silent. Orihime looked to Kita and asked.
“So what are we going to do about Aizen and the order he gave me?”
With a wide smile Kita lend closer to Orihime motioning for her to come closer as she whispered in her ear. They knew the walls in Las Noches had ears and the last thing they wanted was for their idea to get to Aizen. The two then sat in the floor, softly talking about their plans.
