Trick and Treat

Trick and Treat
(Original Song by Rin and Len Kagamine)
The white long marble hallways of the Hatsune Estate were empty. There was no one in the hallways engaging in small talk, no servants running around to make a great hustle and bustle. Everything was silent. In a small room, located at the end of the massive second floor, a young girl sat, her long teal pigtails surrounding most of her body. She was quietly holding two small dolls in her hands, one of a boy and one of a girl. The buttons that made the eyes were carefully sewn on, the black and red clothing was worn from all the attention that the dolls got. However, even though the young girl holding the dolls was playing with them, she didn’t seem very happy about it. In fact, she looked downright disappointed, until a servant-a babysitter-came into the room holding a stuffed bunny. The little girl immediately brightened and threw the other two toys on the ground, cuddling with the bunny, leaving the two rag dolls lying forlorn on the ground…
Miku gave a little jolt and looked around her, confused. She was sitting on a large white cushion in an extremely large and gothic style room. Two other people, a boy and a girl, were standing by two huge wooden doors, their backs turned towards her. Miku rubbed her head a bit. How on Earth did she get here? The last thing she had remembered was walking into the forest late at night…she shifted on the cushion unconsciously, and a squeal of protest broke through the silence of the room. Immediately, the two other figures in the room turned around with inhuman grace in Miku’s direction, wide smiles on their pale faces. Now that Miku got a good look at them, she deduced that they had to be siblings of some sort. Both the boy and girl had straw colored blonde hair and bright, piercing blue eyes. Miku squirmed uncomfortably in her seat as she continued staring at the two. One of them-the girl-broke the tension was a high peal laugh, the sound echoing around the high ceiling room. “Oh, we must stop staring at her, Len! We are going to frighten her terribly.” She walked over to Miku and without a second thought, took the other girl’s hand and kissed it with extremely cold lips. “So sorry, Milady.”
Miku blinked twice at her, and than at the boy-Len-who was still standing near the doorway. “Milady? But…I don’t know you.”
The boy’s smile slipped from his face for a mere instant, but than came back just as quickly. “How regrettably unfortunate,” He said, bowing, though his tone suggested that he did not think it was unfortunate. “Our Lady seems to have gotten amnesia…right, Rin?”
His sister let go of Miku’s hand, and smiling, stood. “Yes, it is unfortunate. But you don’t need to remember who we are. Only that we’re going to have fun with you!”
Before Miku could comprehend what Rin said, both the siblings clasped hands and than said simultaneously, “Let’s play a game!”
Rin skipped off into another room connected with the first one, and in a matter of seconds, came back with an extremely long gray cloth. Still smiling, she gave a nod to Len, who grabbed Miku’s hand and quickly spun her around until she was facing him. From behind her, Miku could feel Rin placing the cloth over her eyes, bounding it repeatedly over her head. Though the girl couldn’t make any sense of what was happening, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that she knew these two from somewhere, but she could not remember. “W-What are you doing?” Miku asked, shuddering as the world went black around her.
“An illusion game!” Rin responded happily. “Right, Len?”
Her brother nodded-though Miku couldn’t see him do it-and took a stick from his pocket. He placed it into Miku’s hands and asked, “What is it?”
“A stick?” Miku replied, confused.
“No, you know that’s what it is. I’m asking your imagination. What is it?”
“I…” Miku was at a loss for words. She had no clue what these two siblings were getting at, and she still couldn’t shake off the feeling that somehow, somewhere, she knew these two. With a start, she felt Len whisper in her ear, “Let’s pretend it’s a cinnamon stick, shall we? It will be much more fun.”
“That’s right!” Rin chimed in, grabbing Miku’s face and turning her head a bit. “You can feel the syrup, can’t you? You can feel it…feel it…feel it…”
Somehow, Rin’s voice began fading away into the dark, and Miku became absorbed in a strange euphoria as she closed her eyes involuntarily. Dimly, she was aware of Rin still chanting something, though it sounded far off. However, as it kept on going, it suddenly became clearer.
“It’s only an illusion. Don’t get lost in its depths!”
As quickly as the euphoria came, it was gone, and Miku snapped back to her senses. What had just happened there? Instinctively, her hands went up to the blindfold over her eyes and she began trying to take it off. Rin’s hands suddenly clamped on top of hers and the younger girl chided, “Don’t take it off Milady. You’ll forget all you’ve seen once you do…”
Len, who had been standing by and watching the whole time, now came over to Miku and-still grinning as usual-taking both her hands, dragged her over to a bed on the far side of the chamber and shoved her onto it. Unable to stop herself, Miku fell on with full force, and her face immediately buried itself into something furry. Furry? Since when were mattresses…? Miku raised her head and as she did, a slip of the blindfold in front of her left eye fell off, letting a bit of sight come through. She was lying on her back on the mattress, and right next to her face was a teddy bear, except there were two things that were quite strange. One was that this little bear astonishingly resembled the one she had as a little girl, even the torn part of its ear was there. The other thing was that a knife-a real one-was protruding from the belly of the animal. With growing puzzlement, Miku turned her head around a little bit, and realized that there were stuffed animals surrounding her, and each bore a shocking resemblance to the ones she had played with as a young girl, and each had a knife buried deep within their fur. What was going on? Miku heard a bit of laughter in front of her and raising her head, saw Rin and Len sitting next to the foot of the bed, right next to a group of candles that reflected eerily on them. She immediately noticed the siblings’ shadows, which rose behind them. Except…they weren’t ordinary shadows. The shadows bore a vague resemblance to two small dolls, and as Miku stared at them, a jolt ran through her head and for a brief second, she saw herself as a little girl, cuddling something in her arms. When the pain subsided, Rin was kneeling right next to her on the bed. “Oh, it came off.” She muttered. “Well, there’s no point now.” With a single florid motion, she tore the blindfold off of Miku’s face, throwing it onto the ground. Miku gave a sigh of relief, thinking that it was over, but than Len came up next to his sister and said in a no-nonsense tone, “You’re such a horrible kid Milady, waking up so soon like that.”
For some reason, Miku found herself smiling at that, and when Rin saw it, she clapped her hands delightedly. “You’re so sweet when you smile like that Milady!” She exclaimed, but than, her next few words rang in Miku’s ears, making her close her eyes as the wave of pain came. “So…will you give it to me?”
The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes again was orange, a bright, vivid, hypnotic orange. It was Len’s eyes that were emitting this color as he leaned closer to Miku, grinning. “Why do you tremble like that, Milady? Is something the matter?”
Rin knelt closer too, her eyes also that same orange color, “I hope not,” She said smoothly. “because I want you to give it to me now.”
“W-What?” Miku stammered, frightened by the change in the twins. They still had the same old friendly manner, but there was something added to that friendliness now. There was a strange aura of death emitting from them.
“Don’t ask questions,” Len replied, extending his hand, as if he expected Miku to hand him something. “You just have to give it to us.”
As he finished speaking, Miku realized that Rin wasn’t next to him anymore and her heart jumped as she realized that the other girl was behind her now, wrapping her hand around Miku’s back and clasping the rose that was pinned just above her heart, a sly look on her face. “Yes…” She rasped, clearly gleeful. “Give it to me…”
As Miku stared at both of them, the world suddenly began to spin in front of her eyes. All she could see was Len and Rin’s hypnotic gaze as they stared at her, waiting. Than, suddenly, the rose petals from her dress flew off and she pitched forward towards the ground, seeing nothing but blackness…
Days later, a hunter walked into the forest next to the village, searching for meat. In the damp early morning fog, he saw a figure collapsed against a tree. Alarmed, he ran over to the figure and saw a strange sight indeed. A girl with long teal ponytails slumped against the trunk, dried blood oozing from her lips. On the ground next to her, placed in each of her hands, were two rag dolls with blonde hair and bloodstained clothes.
