When I did one more search for that "story", I did some additional info search on Mogi Kenichiro. I found out he's crazy enough (in a good way?) to try and solve the mind-brain problem, perhaps, with the assistance of both philosophy and neuroscience. God speed, you brave explorer!
I also came across his Blogspot journal, and I read one entry that was quite striking. I'll link to it here.
If I could add my own brief thoughts, I think it's related to stargazing. Watching fireworks can be like watching stars brought down to Earth, or seeing stars that can't quite make it home.
