Update on Past News Item

Remember way back last year in July when I posted about that news interview that generated thousands - 6,676 - of complaints in Canada? To keep it short, my thoughts were that it was a terrible interview, but didn't violate any Canadian broadcasting standards regulated by the CBSC. Well, the CBSC decided the case and put out a press release this past February. In it is a link to the full decision. Again, to keep things short, they pretty much decided what I did last year.

In the short release, the CBSC say that they "found no violation of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ (CAB) Code of Ethics." In the longer published decision, they examined the case in light of two specific clauses and found that the interview didn't violate any of them. While Erickson showed "bias" and was "aggressive", she was allowed to do so.

You know, I could have saved the CBSC some time and resources if they had simply asked me! In fact, in my earlier post and on their own decision, it was pointed out that the number of complaints were "primarily as a result of a campaign orchestrated on the social media website Facebook." My own words were along the line of the complaints being "manufactured dissent". Again, similar conclusions. So yeah, this was a case that needn't be.
