Quick End-of-the-Year Anime Recap

Well, since this will probably be my last post of the year, I might as well do a quick stream-of-conscious post on my latest anime viewing! These are some shows that just ended, while I'm waiting for the next season coming up. Until then...

Medaka Box: Abnormal - Gainax Ending! I can't really say I saw it coming, however. This series had to do some hard lifting to earn my respect, and the second season finally did that. The first season was okay, but it didn't really kick into gear until the later episodes. Once there, I noticed that I started to...enjoy it. Now that the second season has come and went, it was confounding, CONFOUNDING! I guess Gainax had to stay true to form, haha.

Jormungand: Perfect Order - One of my favorites this year. The second season picks up nicely where the first left off, and then some. Full of intrigue, grand plans, and a very subtle touch of satire, Jormungand: Perfect Order was a world in which monsters walked among monsters.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - A tale of reformed (?) losers among losers. Okay, it's more like weirdos, than outright losers, but hey, they were my kind of weirdo/losers! All in all, I applaud it for affirming the inner weirdo in all of us who had been one, but just shaped it into another form as we grew up.

Busou Shinki - Uh, sexy action toys? Neither fantastic, nor awful. I guess the target audience were guys who secretly marry their gashapon.

Muv-Luv: Total Eclipse - If you love action, romance, comedy, harems, aliens, secret plots, plot twists, mecha, things that bounce, plots that don't really come together, plots that eventually make no sense, more girls, xenophobia, ultra-nationalism, glorious leaders, inglorious rebellions, aliens that eventually take a back seat to whatever else is goin' on, Americans with hidden agendas, hegemonic Americans, stoic Russians, MK-Ultra, and kitchen sinks, then this is your anime!

Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb - Again, neither great, but not terrible either. Okay, this was more good than bad, plus I liked the art-style in this slice-of-life story of girls attending an art school. Did I mention I like Yoshinoya? I like Yoshinoya.
