~Happy Birthday Toushirou~

--So occupied by work, Toushirou forgot his own birthday!

(original story written on December 21, 2008)

He worked so hard all the time. I couldn't stand seeing him strain himself like this. It couldn't be healthy. There had to be something I could do to get him out of this office and away from any distractions. There are even times when he forgets what day it is. I knew what day was coming up, but I have a strong suspicion he didn't. His birthday was tomorrow and it pained me that he didn't even care. I had to do something for him. I just had to.

"Hey, um, Toushi?" I asked curiously.

"What is it?" he said looking up at me.

I smiled as he watched me intently. Those eyes always turned me to butter.

"What are you doing tomorrow?"

He lifted his arms and motioned his hands to his paperwork. I sighed because I knew the answer...

"Do you have to do this?" I asked getting up and looking over his work.

"Who else will?" he said coolly.

I sighed once again and sat on the edge of his desk leaning on one arm. "Rangiku..."

"Ha, good one. It would take even longer for it to get done if she was in charge of it."

"Don't you even know what tomorrow is?" I asked finally giving up.

Toushirou looked up and blinked. "No..."

"You're birthday silly!" I said smiling, reaching for his cheek and stroking it.

Toushirou's eyes widened a little as he realized it was. When the reality check subsided, his eyes focused downward feeling totally embarrassed.

"I'm sorry." he said softly.

"That's okay. No need to be sorry." I said understanding and lifting his chin so his eyes would meet my own. I forgave him by giving him a light, but passionate kiss on his soft lips. I felt his face warm up and I smiled through the kiss at how adorable that was. When I let him breathe, he looked at his work again.

"Alright you win." he said laughing a bit. "I'm all yours tomorrow."

"Yay!!" I said jumping up practically over the desk and hugging him.

He embraced me back and then decided to leave him to his work in all fairness.

"You won't regret it Toushi. I promise."

He nodded and I winked at him, closing the door behind me.

The next day, I went into Toushirou's office. He was in there, but he wasn't working. I smiled happily and glided over to him, putting my arms around his waist. He leaned against me and I squeezed him a little. That produced a slight groan and I giggled.

"Happy birthday Toushirou my love." I whispered.

He turned and hugged me.

"Thank you. It means a lot."

"Yes. For you and for me." I said smirking.

Later that morning, I informed the squad that the captain was going to be unavailable for the day. Rangiku knew what I wanted to do for him so she took over in his place. She did a good job too because no one bothered us the entire day; the walk we had through the field-like outskirts of Rukon was so peaceful. We walked hand in hand, the breeze blowing through our hair. That made him look irresistible. The meal we had back in his office was so romantic. I made him some special dishes and then we had some watermelon which he loves for dessert. I'm glad he was enjoying himself. It's so nice to see him happy.

When the night was coming to an end, I wanted to relax with him for the remainder of the time. We went to his room and curled up together in his futon.

"Toushi?" I said softly as I was stroking his hair.

"Hm?" he said not lifting his head from under my chin.

"I'm...I'm sorry I didn't get you anything as a gift. All the stuff wasn't near good enough to give to you."

He rolled over onto his stomach and smiled lightly.

"Don't be sorry. No material thing will ever give me as much happiness as you gave me today. I'm very grateful. Thank you." he said leaning down and kissing me.

After a little more cuddling, I noticed Toushirou's eyes getting heavy. Sleep was upon him. I kissed him once more before he was out.

"Goodnight, my dearest and happy birthday."
