I skipped on the way home, or well, what I considered home. There were others out there like me! I wasn't the only one of my kind! Though that little tuxedo cat, Sky, didn't have to tell me she was a half breed, I knew right away by how intrigued she was with me being one. Plus, she had a certain scent about her that suggested she wasn't all animal.
I turned down a side alley which I had created to be just for me. I had built a bed out of stray wood and cardboard boxes to fashion myself a bed. I had been able to build a roof so that I could keep the rain out should it a storm come my way. Other than sleeping here, I didn't really spend any of my time here. The city was my back yard.
After my mom left, the house and everything in was repossessed. I didn't want to go to a foster home, so I ran away and chose this alley, where no one ever goes, as my own. Sure, my life wasn't glamorous, but not everyones was.
I only needed to stop here for my journal and then I was off to explore the city. I found the leather journal where I wrote down anything and everything under my pillow.
I headed down to the center of the town where school was getting out for those that chose to go take the torture. I noticed that the billboard said that it was the last day of school before summer. Yippee! I thought with sarcasm. Summer wasn't any different than any other season for me, well except the temperature change.
As I neared the enterance, someone bumped into me on their way out, obviously in a hurry to get out and away from someone.
"Oh, sorry, my fault," I helped up the brown haired young girl as I helped her gather the fallen items. "I wasn't watching where I was going."
The girl looked like she had had a really bad day, and my heart went out to her. I wanted to help her, not in a pitying type of way, but as someone would for a friend.
I handed her the last notebook and looked around for my fallen journal. It was lying open to a page about the Legend of Harmony. The girl went to pick it up and the page caught her interest. She looked up at me questioningly, "What's Harmony?"
I shrugged. "Oh, it's just a stupid legend about where these half breed people go and live in Harmony." I laughed nervously. I hoped she didn't suspect that I myself was a halfa. Not that I cared, I just didn't want to hear any crap about it. I dealt with it enough that I didn't want some stranger going off about how weird and scary it is.
The girl seemed to be lost in thought. "Look, I uh, I got to go." I headed back down the way I had come, intent on getting away from here. "Oh, I'm Ariel by the way," I said as I turned and back pedeled down the street.
A small smile appeared on her thin lips, "Asuka."
With that, I turned and kept walking.
I kept running until they were all out of sight. I flopped down panting hard. "The rouges need to get a life instead of chasing other cats." I said to my self. I started to groom myself before going back. Otherwise Cody would have a fit that I had been in a fight...again.
I had just started grooming myself when I was some one...or something..Leap over the fence. I twitched my ears now curious. Walking over and peering over the edge I saw a white tiger growling and snarling at some people...I think form the village over? They soon started running for the fence and jumping over. Heh. Sucks for them!
The tiger turned around and was a human...Now that surprised me....But I guess you don't see white tigers running around. Wonder where she's going. I decided to fallow her and see. Putting one paw in front of the other I walked carefully so she would not know.
I had been fallowing her for a few minuets until I herd the thudding of paw steps behind me. Shoot. Them again. I spun around hissing only to find Cody. "Sky! Finally I found you! I got worried when you were gone soo.....Sky! You were in a fight again weren't you!" "Yha yah..But look! Its another mixed breed like me!" I flicked my ear to where she was only to see that she was gone. "Now look what ya did Cody! You scared her off!" My fur fluffed. "S-sorry Sky...I didn't know.." He said pawing the ground. "Don't feel so bad. You didn't scare me off." Said a voice. We both turned around to see the tiger girl crouching there. "Besides I knew you were fallowing me. You forgot about your sent." She said pointing to her nose smiling. "Oh." I mumbled and turned away.
"Well what ever. I should be off....By the way I'm Ariel...And you are?" She asked turning her head. "I'm Sky and that's Cody." She nodded. "Well may be see you around." She called over her shoulder and she trotted off.

Ok I have a question(even though I created this world...) Can we tell if the other person is a mixed breed like us or dose it just look like a animal since we can under stand them too. Just woundering.
It was the last day of school before summer vacation (finally) and none of the teachers really cared what the students did that day. So, all the little "cliques" were sitting together and gossiping and having fun. Everyone seemed to be having a great time...except me. I didn't really fit in anywhere except with myself. I had never met another half breed (aside from family), so I guess I'm just a freak. Every now and then some popular kid would pop their head around backwards to look at me then turn around snickering to themselves. I can't figure out what everyone sees that's so funny. I'm in human form right now, what could they possibly see that's so dang hilarious! The final bell rang and most everyone charged the door. I slowly gathered my things and began walking out myself when I heard a voice say "Hey Half-er!" "Ugh," I thought, "it's the last day of school, I don't feel like dealing with these people...let's try to be nice and see if they'll leave me alone."
"Where ya goin Half-er?" One of the most popular girls in school asked.
"Well (I'm a bit shy anyways) home, like everyone else."
"Oh" she was looking me over with a disgusted look on her face, "Plan on rumaging any garbage cans for your next meal?"
I blushed, partly offended, partly embarrassed, "No, I-I was actually going to go somewhere nice tonight since it's the first night of summer"
"Uh-huh sure, not looking like that you won't."
I looked down to see what she was talking about. Then I figured out what was so funny. I had a bad tendancy to change to animal form (or PARTIAL animal form) without meaning to or even noticing. I was still partially human, but my lovely, fluffy, striped tail was there too. I could feel my face turning a deep red all over and everyone still in the classroom laughed. I grabbed my stuff in a hurry and ran out the door.
Kara
I sighed and stole a strawberry pocky stick from one of my little brothers, Kovu. "Hey!" he said.
"Come on, Kovu," I said. "You can spare one of your pocky sticks. It's not like I'm taking the entire box!"
"Fine," Kovu answered. The two of us sat up in the tree not too far from our home. I twitched my brown mongoose ears as I ate my pocky stick. My other younger brother, my older twin sister, and my oldest brother where probally outside playing.
"Kara," Kovu said. "Do you believe that story?"
"Which story?" I asked.
"You know, the one about the Island shrowded in mystery?"
"Why do you ask?" I replied.
"Well, I was wondering if you want to help me find it once it's your Birthday in the next week," Kovu said embarressedly. "I mean, wouldn't it be nice to live among your own kind? We get stones thrown at us by the city kids and most of the animals just attack us when we're not in animal form."
I sighed again. "Kovu, you know the story is just a legend. There is not mysterious Island named Harmony. It's just a children's story!"
Kovu dropped his head. "Never mind."
~~~
Yep, Kovu is the second youngest of the five while Kara is the third oldest. I guess I should say that Kovu's eight and Kara is like 14. Anyway.
Ok, so I decided to continue. Enjoy!
Sweat glisened on my smooth skin as I panted heavily. THe one thing that continued to baffle me was how persistent people were. One would think the villagers would have quit chasing me twenty minutes ago, but no. I laughed as I back pedalled from them, sticking my tongue out at them. When I started to fall back after tripping over a puddle of water, I was able to do a back flip to correct myself. I took off with a sudden burst of speed and never looked back.
What were they angry with me for today? WAs it spray painting my name all over the shrine? Maybe Yelling at the Gods in the temple? Ya, that was probably it. I wasn't considered 'normal' so they looked down on upon my being in there in the first place.
What was 'normal?' Normal to one culture isn't normal to another. What gave someone the right to decide for everyone else? People in this world are scared to think for themselves. They follow what the richest one has to say. People aren't an independent people, they depend on others so they can follow them.
And Gods? They don't exist! Aren't gods supposed to protect and watch over the people? Well, God wasn't watching out for me by killing my dad or making my mom walk out on me. No, if there was a God, he wouldn't have let that happen.
I ran down a side alley, hoping to skip over a fence, but I must have turned down the wrong alley- no fence, just a brick wall to high to jump.
The villagers turned down the alley, hoping to corner me. But a white tiger roared something fierce and they were practically climbing all over themselves to get away from me.
I shrugged as I walked back out of the alley, the same way I had come as people gave me curious looks. What? So a girl wasn't able to use her natural born gifts to help her out?
