A thick air of tension hung around as I learned what had actually happened. Why hasn’t anyone told me that?!
“Mommy and daddy wanted me to be safe, and they thought you could take care of yourself. They said you took fencing and judo.”
Cloud was right on that one. I did take judo and fencing, but it still wasn’t right to not tell me that they gave me up for my sister.
What do I do now?!
One part of me wanted to go back to our parents, but another part said not to do that—I never go back on my word, and I didn’t want to start now.
I finally decided to stay and run with Claudia on my side. If she didn't want to stay, then I will keep going, and find it for the both of us. “Cloud, we’ll still keep going to the place where the other Halfling we saw said—Harmony.”
Cloud didn’t look very happy, but still followed me to the edge of the town.
“You don’t have to follow me,” I told her.
“Yes I do.”
I couldn’t have admired her more than in that moment; her courage to face the unknown, even with the option of going home.
We will find Harmony, for you Claudia.
