Little bluish-white spots began to appear in the blackness, illuminating the dark space in my dream. As their brightness intensified, I recognized them as stars—white giants actually: the biggest, hottest, and shortest-lived of the star types. Opal-white clusters, suspended bits of silvery dust and ice, and pock-marked rocks floated freely in deep space.
Suddenly, a rush of debris came towards me—probably attracted by my mass and close proximity—and collected into a single entity. It seemed to pick me up and carry me forward, bringing unexpected warmth. I felt myself speeding up, faster and faster, until I was riding on the back of a fiery comet streaking across the universe.
I know there isn’t supposed to be air in space, but I swear I could feel a cool breeze ruffling my fur and hear it whispering softly next to my ear.
A yellow-gold planet loomed up ahead and I was afraid that I was going to crash into the elliptical red rings surrounding it, but instead, the comet and I flew straight through them, stirring up beautiful ruby waves in our wake.
The comet began to slow as a small starry swirl came into view. Actually, it wasn’t small at all, but a mammoth halo of millions of stars going around a central orb that shone like celestial pearl.
It hit me that what I was looking at was, in fact, the Milky Way’s sister galaxy, Andromeda. I had heard about her in many astronomy programs I’d watched back in my old house; supposedly, we were destined to collide with her in roughly 4 billion years.
My eyes were wide open, taking in every detail of the magnificent scene, because I had always hoped to see Andromeda in real life (though I had had doubts that I ever would, even through a telescope). She was more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.
An eerie, hollow howl echoed through the galaxy, rippling through the iridescent halo and sending a stream of stardust my way. It cast a veil of darkness over my eyes and I lost sight of Andromeda as my mind went black.
. . .
I awoke in someone’s arms. I felt that they were human and for a brief moment, I panicked a little—thinking that I had gotten captured by hunters—but I looked up and recognized Ren’s face and sighed with relief—I was in no danger.
“You’re awake,” He said, keeping his eyes on the frosty asphalt road ahead.
I craned my neck over the side of his arm and checked to see that everyone was present. Prince was striding confidently in the lead as he stared into the distance as though he were searching for something that the rest of us couldn’t see.
The two black-haired siblings, Zack and Zoey, were following Prince, talking to each other about something that I didn’t bother listening too intently into.
Claudia limped at Prince’s side, her mahogany pigtails bouncing with each step. Despite my last, terribly unsuccessful attempt at killing her, I couldn’t help but be encouraged by her injury to try again. When she caught sight of me, she sped up to Prince with surprising celerity and pushed him my way.
“Prince is all yours!” Claudia offered.
The fox-halfer’s orange-yellow eyes glittered with confusion and he seemed just as surprised as I was. He turned around to Claudia and exclaimed, “LOOK, YOU! I AM NOT DOG FOOD!”
“Sure you are,” Claudia hissed as she moved him closer to me.
“SHUT UP BRAT!” He shouted.
“MAKE ME!” Claudia screamed back with considerably more ferocity than she looked like she could muster. Her cerulean eyes challenged him to say something back, but he obviously had other things on his mind, and continued walking briskly down the steep hill.
The scent of evergreens was overwhelming as the tall pines’ branches curved into a funnel around us. The sound of mountain birds singing whistled through the leaves as the sun began to dip below the horizon. Shades of pink, red, and purple streaked the sky and stained the clouds. Through a small gap in the forest canopy, a lone star twinkled, signaling the arrival of twilight.
The funnel ended, revealing a broad vista of a huge city below. I pricked my ears forward, listening in to the alien sounds of human settlements. High-pitched barks of pent-up house dogs could be heard as an ambulance wailed in the streets. My moist nose quivered as the greasy scents of burning meat—probably burgers—drifted past me.
I was used to places like this, grew up in one like it actually. I don’t remember it too well—I’m pretty sure that my eyes were still blue then—but I think they called it L.A.? I don’t know, though.
Just like my first city, this one had a dense blanket of smog. Hovering above it like a bad omen—a cobra lying in wait, preparing to bare its fangs and unleash poison.

Yay! That was so much fun to write X3 even it took me forever (sorry about that Abyss). I put Zack in here because he kind of got left at the hotel, and in the chat I saw that someone asked where he was so...hope that was okay. Also, I didn't know what Prince would say back to Claudia, so it's kind of OOC I think, sorry >> *shame*.
I've been watching NOVA's "Universe" series, which is absolutely fantastic, so I really wanted to do a dream sequence in space. Space is cool <3
