He was attacking out right? How predictable. You'd think some one somewhere would think to attack some other way at the start. I drew my blade in front of me. As he went to stab my face, probably wanting to finish this quickly I slipped mine right under his.
With his blade about an inch away I moved, just in time. Some of my hair had been shortened by that strategy, but the results had been perfect. His blade had slipped right past leading his hand into my own. Just as I thought that I felt blood run down my cheek. So I hadn't dodged as cleanly as I had thought. I tightened my grip on my sword and also Pierce's dagger.
We circled each-other now, both recognizing the other was skilled. I twirled my blade in my hand once before I made the next move. I darted at him, as he went to guard I ducked around him. He turned just in time to deflect a crippling attack as I started for his exposed back.
A growl escaped me as my sword cut nothing but fabric, but I had no time to dwell on that. He was attacking again. I used Pierce's dagger to stop the blade, man I was glad it wasn't one of the wooden ones. Using my free blade I stabbed him in the leg.
He fell and I stud up, knowing it wasn't over. As he struggled up I made no move to help or attack.
As soon as he was up the flying of our blades continued. I cut him a couple times in the face. My left hand was cut open casing me to drop Pierce's dagger, god I hoped I could find that again. We both took attacks to our shoulders and arms. I got in a few more at his legs, but then again I was bleeding under cuts in my pants. One good thing about having chains on your pants though, swords can't easily cut them.
He looked over at a girl who had joined us, fox I guessed by her smell. "You better not lose focus bird!" I yelled. With that I attacked again, he blocked it again. I just kept up my attacks. I stabbed him again, this time it was a nasty injury. "I thought you where going two beat me, bird," I scoffed as he lay before me.
"You're a fool to count your chickens so soon," he laughed. My ears pricked at that, then I felt it his blade had sunk into my body almost hitting my lung. The pain in my chest was overwhelming, I fell, maybe he had beat me.
I heard the fox approach us, I heard them talking, I heard them talking about me. No I couldn't give up, I had to protect the others. I struggled to my feet, and looked at him.
"Now was that supposed to kill me?" I asked as a faint cocky smile spread over my face. I would win, not for myself, but for the others.

I tore my jacket to bandage Echo's wounds. Hearing her whimper as I tightened them bothered me. As I wrapped the remains around her couldn't help but cry. I hoisted her onto my back feeling my smashed shoulder scream in protest.
"But what about your shoulder?" her weak voice asked, it was as if she'd read my mind.
"Echo, you're injuries are all that matter; let's just get somewhere safe and wait for Nanuke." I said, determined not to stay here.
I fallowed my own sent trail down the halls. It was good I could track as a human. As I passed the place I had split off from the rest I could see many guards watching something. I sped up as I passed them by.
I slipped outside and found the place with the least amount of snow that had a view of the entrance but couldn't be seen. I settled Echo in the snow, making it as worm as possible then went to keep watch. My shoulder burned, and I needed rest, but it didn't matter, I wouldn't rest til I knew she was safe.
