~Sebastien~
I laid there; each breath became a bothersome labour as I struggled for my next one. My life was fading I could feel it. I looked at the blade that had been kicked within my reach. I wondered if the wolf had perished yet…
Ghosti jumped down from her place of hiding and ran over. She approached slowly holding my hat tightly to her chest maybe she thought I had already died.
“Seb, say something!” She almost yelled kneeling down to my eye level. I chuckled at the concern written across her face.
“Yes, please stop butchering my name.” I smiled.
“Idiot!” She shook her head.
“Hmph, so I’ve been told.” I laughed holding my chest; it hurt dreadfully but I couldn’t help myself.
“Just let me help you.” She pushed away my hand and fumbled with the buttons on my vest. I grabbed her wrist before she could unclasp it.
“Ghosti…just get away from here; there’s nothing you can do for me.” I let go and laid my hand back against the chilled tiles.
“You’re an idiot, Seb! You’ve always have been!” She yelled. “Do you really think I can just leave you here to die!?” Her voice shook.
“Then I’ll just kill you both; that should make it easy.”
Ghosti flipped around at the sound of the voice. I looked up into the now open eyes of the usually sleeping prison guard; though it was a sickening idea that it had been him to sneak up on us while I had done so to him for years.
He sneered flipping his gun from its holister. “And here I though you were so loyal; I guess this is exactly what you deserve for treason.” He shrugged waving it lazily. “I can’t believe someone of your talent fell to a nameless thug. Now look at you, a bleeding mess. Even though I would like to watch die slowly; I ‘d enjoy the fact that it was me who ended your annoying life.”
He poised the gun aiming for my already pitiful heart. Ghosti jumped up her white hair twisting around her like a fan as she shielded my chest.
“Damn it! I told you to run away!” I yelled but she refused to budge.
“No matter.” He grinned poising his thumb on the trigger. But a horrible buzzing broke his concentration. He glanced down at his belt and a voice was coming from his radio.
“Guards, stop attacking. I'm leaving with them, so stop attacking at once.”
His face must have looked as shocked as ours. He looked back to us with renewed hate.
“Tch, I don’t give a damn if she goes but like hell I’m letting either of you live!”
But Giovana continued. “And release all of the other halfers to come with us. We are going to go to Harmony.” Her voice spoke in a tone I had never heard. Even though, his loyalty was wavering; his mind had been made up.
I kicked Ghosti’s legs; she fell on the ground with a surprised yelp and a splash of red exploded into the air with the blast of the gunshot. I grinned, as more blood spilt from my right shoulder. I was quite lucky he was a terrible shot. With a still able hand I pushed myself forward and flew onto my feet. With a heavy swing I dragged my sword across his throat. The skin drew open; from the tip a sea of red poured from its incision.
He collapsed with a deadening thud to the ground. He cursed my name with his dying breath; until the last of it escaped him with a final silence. I fell to my knees vomiting into the floor; I smirked as the thick crimson dripped from my chin. I had overexerted myself once again; bt a cursed creature doesn’t fall so easily.
“Seb!” Ghosti screamed. I pushed myself back against the wall; it hurt unimaginably. Why was I doing all this?
“Is there someone you would die for?” The cold voice spoke to me.
I smiled, maybe now I can finally see. I laid my head back against the hard marble; waiting for my time in this life to end. I counted the beats of my pulse as the minutes passed. I heard voices and a single pair of footsteps drawing nearer.
A shadow loomed over me; I blinked looking up into the spiteful eyes I recognized quite quickly.
“You can't do anything, Jake," I chuckled, my heart grew slower every passing moment; I knew I couldn’t last much longer. He ignored me instead grabbed the bracelet latched like a death-grip attached to my ankle. I chuckled, it was rather ironic. I clenched my teeth when he ripped it from my skin and it tumbled across the floor.
“Hold your breath.” He said as if it were an order; I raise an eyebrow puzzled before I could ask his fang dug deep into my neck. I yelled out more in surprise than pain; was he being merciful or devouring me. Either I was not sure, but a soft gurgling in the back of his throat told me otherwise. He was draining me of the poison.
When he released me, I quickly threw my palm over the wound; my eyebrows drew together bewildered. Jake turned spitting up all my blood from his mouth.
“Idiot.” I laughed; he cast me a glare that I gladly overlooked.
"I just saved your life. Take it as gratitude, you idiot. You're a friend of mine. Should it be any different?" He spat. I chuckled, a friend, eh? Maybe I had overlooked things for far too long. My thinking was stopped short when he tossed a torn cloth; I looked at it to him.
"Wrap up your neck. We're leaving. Permanently," He said, he turned and walked over to Giovana who had been watching from afar.
He looked back. “What are you waiting for?” He said impatiently.
I scoffed, “If you think I can walk in such a condition; I truly believe you are mad.”
He was about to say something when Ghosti walked from the pillar where she had been hiding. She said nothing but took the cloth from my hand binding it around my neck.
“Hey Seb, if you turn into a raven then I can carry you.” She said with high spirits.
I grimaced with good humor; it seemed I had little choice. I transformed into my dark form and sat there patiently. She carefully wove her fingers under my feet lifting me into her arms. If I had not been cut to bits; I would have rather flown but everything still seemed like an odd dream.
“Alright, let’s go.” Jake nodded.
