I...ah, damned, bu' don' tell anyone, aight? I ran, ignorin' Lion-Boy as he call'd out, askin' where I was headed. I couldna told 'im, mate. I didn't know. He 'ave t' 'scuse m' rudeness, tho' I look'd back in time t' see Kasumi tell 'im t' sumthin'. I nodded t' m'self. He'd be okay.
I ran, fast as m' legs coulda carried me t' Sky, leader o' the group, perch'd up on'a rock, jus' as prity as ya please. "Sky, 'ey, 'ave ya...ah..." I faltered, feelin' stupid. SHe prolly di'in't want some human nosin' round in 'er 'alfers, eh? I look'd down, "'Ave ya seen any, ah...Well..." I almost curse'd, bu' I stop'd m'self. C'mon, Enn, yer in th' presence o' a lady..."'Ave ya..." I cleared my throat, "Have you seen Kai, anywhere? I mean, if you haven't, I'd--I mean, I would be more than willing to look or...or something." I will'd m' accent away wi' th' force o' sheer willpower. She 'ad t' understand wha' I was sayin' if'n I want'd t' find 'im.
I look'd up t' see Sky smilin' a sweet, kinda confused smile, like I was th' funniest thin' she'd seen ina while. "Kai!" she called out behind her, "I...think somene's looking for you.
An' I saw 'im. All frantic n' fluster'd lookin', pretty as ya please. Kai was wi' Pierce, who was wi' th' bird girl, who was wi' another girl. All'a 'em look'd confused as hell, 'til Kai saw me, too.
An', I really dunno who was runnin' outta th' two o' us, bu' we were face t' face, jus' like that. I grin'd. He grin'd, then scowl'd, snatchin' up m' hand like i' was on fire an' scoldin' me 'bout safety like m' mother used t'.
Wha'ever hell may come outta th' rest o' this, i' was nice t' know Kai wa' safe, sappy as i' sounded.
