Everything was peaceful. The sunlight rose into the bedroom from the windows and the ceiling windows as such. There was a light breeze coming in from one of the open windows I opened last night right before I went to bed. It seemed that everything was, in a way, perfect. It was hard to believe that Rika and I built this house by ourselves, with some help from the townspeople.
I slowly opened my eyes and saw only my messy black bangs. I moved them aside and saw that Rika was beside me, still sleeping. I couldn’t help but smile as I saw her sleeping peacefully with the swift breeze hitting her hair and letting her scent go throughout the house. I just smiled and quietly slipped out of bed and walked over to my dresser across the room and slipped on a black shirt and my usual black vest and slipped on a pair of old jeans and quietly left the room so that Rika could sleep longer.
I walked through the hallway of my house that also contained my son’s room, and where I hoped he was still sleeping. There was no telling with Nathan sometimes. He loved to just run around in his animal form now that he’s learned how to, especially after teaching him how to walk just got him bouncing around.
Once I walked into the kitchen, which was basically all just white, which both Rika and I decided on, and grabbed a pan out one of the drawers and grabbed some meat out of the fridge and started up on sausages and once I got the batter ready, I got started on pancakes. It was my turn to cook today.
“Daddy! Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!” I heard a voice exclaim as I heard feet running into the kitchen and I couldn’t help but put my spatula down and immediately turn and pick up my son. I propped him up on my shoulder and looked at him.
“Ooooo…. Pancakes, Daddy? And sausages? Yay!” Nathan exclaimed as his little tail popped out and his brown eyes shown along with his black hair shining in the light. He was wearing his usual black t-shirt and blue jeans and he was shining brightly.
“Yep! But we can’t wake up Mommy yet, okay? She’s still sleeping,” I told him and he just nodded and jumped down swiftly from my shoulder. I was surprised that he had gotten more black leopard in him than hyena but either way, he had the cat reflex to always land on his feet.
“I’m going to go watch TV, okay, Daddy?” I just nodded and he ran off and I couldn’t help but smile as I started to finish up the pancakes and slide them onto a plate and then just as the sausages finished up, I felt hands wrap around me and a head slide onto my shoulder.
“Sausages and pancakes? Are we spoiling Nathan?” A voice whispered to me and I just chuckled and turned my head to see Rika.
Her beautiful long brown, wavy hair strung down to her shoulders and her light brown eyes shone with tiredness and the light shining in the windows. She was still wearing her pajamas, which was just a brown tank top and white shorts, but she looked beautiful either way, even if her hair was messed up.
“No, I don’t think so,” I chuckled as I finished up breakfast and turn off the stove and put everything on a plate.
“I still can’t believe that the protector of Harmony is dead…” Rika sighed and I looked at her as I got out plates.
“We shouldn’t talk about that a lot, especially around Nathan,” I whispered and she just looked at me and nodded and kissed me on the cheek, and while holding the plates in one hand, I took Rika in the other and kissed her for a few mere seconds and then ended it because I heard Nathan rushing into the room.
“Mommy!” Nathan ran into Rika’s hands and she picked him up, but seemed to struggle a little bit while doing so. I wondered what was wrong but Rika just mouthed, “Talk to me later,” and I just nodded and we all sat down to eat.
At some point, this family, I had a feeling, would have to leave Harmony... And I didn’t like the idea just as much as Rika did… Because she knew that too.
