~Luna
The chatter of people in the stores and the open market made me smile. The excitement but the news of what has happened to the protector of Harmony was the real noise. She died, and that meant for all of us that either the world outside this one, the human one, that something is wrong and we can stay or leave. I don’t know either really.
Moon had called me this morning, telling me something important he had to tell me, and it made me wonder what. If it was something between Rika and him or something else… It scared me really, though this morning, I thought I should get some fresh produce at least for lunch or dinner.
As I went through each stand and gathered a bit of fruit and vegetables, I thought I noticed someone I recognized and I was right. It was Sage. I had had him over for dinner a few times to have him relax after sometimes having fights with his sister, Spinner. I met her a few times but I’m pretty sure that she never liked me only because I was Sage’s friend.
Today was one of the few days I actually saw his scar. It was rare that I did see it but it didn’t bother me. I’ve seen worse scars than the one he has, though it was slightly obvious he was embarrassed of it. I didn’t mind. He’s a pretty nice guy anyways.
"Sage?" I called and he didn’t seem to hear me. "That is you right?” He stopped and then turned around and looked at me.
"Hi Luna." I smiled. I liked hearing his voice.
"It's nice to see you again. How are you and Spinner doing?" He laughed.
"Fine. Thanks for asking,” Sage said and it made me remember when I first met him, showed him around Harmony. He got to Harmony only a few days after I did.
"So, are you headed to go and see your brother again?" I nodded. Sage had met Moon and Rika before, when they had dropped in unexpectedly when I was having Sage over for dinner with his sister, Spinner. It was when I first met Spinner too.
"He said he and Rika had to talk to me about something important..." I said with worry in my voice, which I didn’t mean to happen. Sage noticed but we continued to walk until we got to Moon’s house and I turned and waved to Sage.
"It was nice talking to you again,” I said to Sage and he started to walk off once I knocked on the door and I heard running footsteps and I knew that was Nathan. I actually don’t remember if Sage had met Nathan before.
"AUNTIE LUNA!" I laughed when Nathan jumped into my arms once I opened the door and I turned around to see Sage halfway down the stairs, he seeming to be almost lost in his thoughts.
“Who’s he, Auntie Luna?” Nathan asked and Sage paused in his steps and turned around.
“This is Sage. Sage, have you met Nathan?” I asked with a smile and he shook his head and came back up to me.
“You smell like a fish,” Nathan said bluntly as he wiggled his nose and I just chuckled and Sage looked completely embarrassed.
“Nathan, don’t say it like that. That’s mean. He’s a type of shark, a Megalodon. It’s pretty cool if you ask me,” I said with a smile and he smiled with a slight blush on his face and that’s when I heard Moon in the house.
“Sis? That you?” Moon asked as he came around the corner, still in his pajamas with Rika around his hip. Those two have never left each other ever since they got married.
“Yes, it’s me,” I called back and put Nathan down, who ran back inside and I turned to Sage. “Want to come in?” I asked and Sage looked a bit uneasy before nodding and he came in along with me.
Moon smiled once he saw me and Sage and welcomed Sage in, then with Nathan wanting to play with Sage and dragging him off to the backyard. It made me laugh as Sage looked at me with a “help” look on his face. Once Nathan started to play with Sage outside, Moon turned to me.
“We are thinking about leaving Harmony.” I stared at Moon. The thought… So it was about that…
“So you’re going to leave Mother here without protection?” It was the first thing that came to mind and Moon frowned.
“She’ll be fine here. I already talked to her about it, Luna,” Moon said simply and Rika seemed to be occupied by something else.
“I’ll be right back,” Rika told Moon with a smile but she looked at me with worry in her eyes. She wasn’t just worried about us and her son. It was… something else. She headed to the backyard to play with Nathan and Sage.
“How do you know that? We’re leaving her again! You are! You were the first one to leave the clan once you killed Dad! You wouldn’t lead everybody!”
“Because I wasn’t ready, Luna! That’s why! I needed to learn, just as you did. After killing Dad, I had to leave! Don’t tell me they didn’t want Mother and you to leave either!” Moon yelled back and I jumped. I wasn’t used to him yelling. It was something new to him when he came here. He got a bit of anger in him, for some reason.
“So what will you do then?” I ignored what he said, even though it was very true. “Leave me, leave everybody you know here?”
“It’s not safe here anymore. This place is just as vulnerable as the human world is, Luna. Don’t tell me you didn’t realize that either. I know you thought about it once or twice, about leaving. It’s obvious in your eyes,” Moon said simply, the anger going out of him and him just looking at me with interested eyes. I guess that was true. I have thought about it.
“Well, I’ll decide. I just don’t have anybody to go with like you do,” I said simply and he just narrowed his eyes.
“What about Sage?” I looked at him curiously.
“Sage? I’ll ask him. He’s mainly the only person I know here besides people who were from the group we were in,” I said with a small smile and after that, Moon just looked at me with blank eyes as Nathan came running in with his hand dragging along Sage, who looked like he was having fun and yet, still embarrassed. Rika followed in behind him. She smelled… different.
“Daddy! You should come see the stuff Sage and I made!” He dragged Moon out the door with a smile being on Moon’s face, his mind probably clouded with the stuff he and I just argued about. Rika went back into the kitchen as Sage walked back over to me, he smelling of dirt.
“What, did you play in the dirt or something?” I asked and he laughed.
“Something,” he told me back and I laughed this time and I decided to ask him what I had just talked about.
“Hey, do you want to leave Harmony with me?” I said uneasily and he looked at me surprised while I waited for an answer.
