Back To the World!

~Sky

I sighed and turned over in my bed again checking the time on my phone before crawling out of bed. I guess it was time for me to get my butt moving. I pulled on some fresh cloths and grabbed the bag from my closet. I grabbed a pair of shoes before slowly opening my door and peeking out. No one.. Good.

Tip-toeing outside, I glided through the darkness before I reached the door. I put my hand on the handle and the cool metal soothed my hot hands from sneaking out of my house without telling anyone. I twisted the knob and I heard a small click before looking back once more and quickly running out side.

They won’t worry! I thought to myself as I ran down the almost empty streets of Harmony. We were meeting at the door that would lead us out of here. It hardly seemed like I was running for what should have been five minutes before I stopped gasping for breath and looking back to make sure my family hadn’t followed me or something.

Regaining my composure, I walked to the meeting spot at the door. One of the guards looked up. “Name?” It was a woman’s voice and as she stood up I realized that from the almost transparent wings on her back, she was a dragonfly. “Sky Makoto.”

She nodded. “It says you were going to travel with some others, right?” I nodded and she told me she would be back in a moment. I sat down and waited until I heard some foot steeps. Not long after that, more people had shown up.

I sighed as the guard returned this time with someone following her. I stared up at him. He was beautiful! I couldn’t tell what kind of halfer he was though. “This is your full group?” I nodded quickly almost afraid to speak to him. “And… You all know that since things have become this way for humans to enter the passage way to Harmony, it’s no longer safe for us to keep the doors open. We can let you out, but no telling when you’ll be able to come back in.”

I took a steep back, but I knew this already. “Yes… We all understand.” He smiled before turning to the door. I wonder if he had some kind of key or something…? It was still slightly dark, but it looked as if he had nothing in his hand. He placed his hand on the door before it swung wide open. Glancing back over his shoulder he waved us towards it.

Looking around my mouth hung wide open. This… Was what the world looked like now? I looked around and steeped forward. It was so different! So strange… I looked back at the one who had opened the door as he gave directions where we could find other halfers.

“It isn’t that far, let’s get going.” Sky said as we all finished stepping through the door. As the last person’s foot was through the door, it slowly closed. I stared as the image of the door faded and we soon started walking.

It seemed like we walked on for a long time, longer than it should have taken us… “Do you think we’re going the right way?” I asked Luna and she nodded . “I.. Think so.” She didn’t seem too confident though, but I believed her and continued walking until we came out of the woods. Looking around, I couldn’t see much besides country land as far as the eye could see…

“Halfers wouldn’t be living out here… I mean.. Would they?” Luna just shrugged. We kept walking until we stopped for a small break. I didn’t know any of the people here besides Luna, Rika, Moon, and Nathan. I cleared my throat and tried introducing myself to the nearest person.

She looked over at mean I shrank away, what if she yelled at me? But instead, she smiled, “I’m Ariel. It’s nice to meet you.. But.. I don’t remember you from before…?” she seemed to asked. I nodded. “Yeah. I arrived later so I wasn’t a part of your group.”

The woman, Ariel, she seemed really nice. “So.. What do you think of the world now, Sage?” she asked and I couldn’t answer. It seemed so familiar, but something was off about it. “I can’t really say for sure yet…”

We talked for a while longer and she was really nice, until we heard some mumbling from the others.

“Is that a half breed?”

“It can’t be…”

“If it is, it smells so different…”

I looked to see what they were talking about. It was a large animal coming towards us. As it drew closer, I realized that it was a lion. I growled and showed it’s fangs as its tail swished back and forth. They were right. It did smell kind of like a halfer, but at the same time, it was different.

It stopped and everyone seemed on guard to battle. Something wasn’t right about it… It let out a roar before charging. Others of the group changed ready to fight and defend. As it got closer and closer, I could see its eyes. They were glazed over and didn’t even seem to be looking at anything.

I phased into my hyena form and stood protectively in front of Nathan as Moon stood beside me. If it came even close to him! I growled again at the thought. But out group was large and powerful. We seemed to over-power it at first before it started to somehow regain strength back.

It wasn’t good. Some were already injured and I could tell in the years of Harmony, none of us had stayed in shape to fight. It wasn’t good. We would have to run for it soon. I changed back into my human form and picked Nathan up, covering his eyes.

He didn’t seem to know what was going on, but now I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to bring him here. Suddenly a different wolf joined the fight along with two other familiar faces. “Kai?!” I shouted and he smiled and I turned to the other. He had aged, but I could tell he was Ennis.

With the new found force, we over powered. The lion growled before turning tail. I smiled and ran over to the two of them before looking at the two new faces. The one who I had thought was a wolf didn’t seem as… Wolfy up close. It had the scent of a lynx AND Wolf.. But maybe it was just a trick my head was playing on me. They were soon bombarded with questions and happiness of the others who had been in the group and traveled alongside him.

I smiled. I never thought that we would find them! Just then I saw some movement farther out. I drew closer before changing into my hyena form again and chasing after it. Hell if another one of those things were going to sneak up on us!

Whatever it was seemed to notice that I was after it and started to scurry away. “You aren’t getting away that easily!” I growled and pounced on it, pinning it, or more like his face in the ground. “owww…” I stared down at the “thing” I had just caught. I sniffed it. Just a half breed…?

I quickly stepped off him and apologized. “I’m sorry! I thought you were another one of those… other things!” He dusted his clothes off and picked his goggled back up. “It’s okay.. I was about to jump in and help, but I guess some others beat me to it.” He laughed. “I’m Trent by the way.” I nodded and smiled, “Rika. Nice to meet you.”

“Rika?” I turned to see Moon walking over and I blushed, “It was just a misunderstanding!” I realized that it probably looked slightly strange with me just suddenly bolting off and tackling a stranger…. “Anyway, this is Trent.” Moon introduced himself too.

“Anyway, Trent, where’s the rest of your group? We’re… I guess kind of new here and don’t really know where to go…” Trent just shrugged and scratched his head. “Don’t really have one.” A halfer traveling alone? I guess it wasn’t that strange, but I just never ran into them. “If you aren’t, why don’t you travel with us? The more the merrier and it isn’t safe to be alone with one of those things running around…” I waited to see what he would say.

Continue?

Just trying to get this place moving.

First part-The guy was the other guardian/god of Harmony that protected the inside (You know, the other god/guardian, the woman who decided if they were fit to enter harmony was the other?)

Second Part-The thing that attacked them was one of those crazy halfers that loses its mind eventually and attacks at random.
