Search of Roses

I grunted at the impact of my fist against his arm. I punched harder than I meant to. The man tried to hit me again, but missed. Or, might I add, missed again. He was covered in bruises, yet he didn’t even lay a hand on me
“Stop!” yelled a new voice. I ducked another attack from the man and swirled around. Standing there was Kei, a boy my age (I’m 14 by the way) with green eyes and usually ruffled red hair. Might I add he was to be the next prince if he agreed to marry Hikaru, the Rose Princess?
“Hello sir.” I said politely. He didn’t remember me at all from when we were young I was guessing, so I acted as if he was, well, the next king to this area.
“Excuse me, I do not wish to disturb your silly battle.” He said. I laughed to myself quietly. It was silly. A 20 year-old man was getting beat up by a fragile 14 year-old. Kei glanced at me for a moment. Then, without a word, he grabbed my hand and pulled me through the castle gates. Surprised, I glanced at his hand, then the back of his head. It felt exactly like it did years ago. Warm, big, and protective. I felt heat rushing to my face. I looked at the ground. Then, we arrived at the King’s throne room.
“Sir, I have brought a companion to accompany me.” Kei said. I stared at him. What was he talking about? Then, the answer slapped me straight in the face. Hikaru was kidnapped a couple days ago, and many already started searching. The king looked at me.
“Are you positive?” The king asked.
“Yes sir.” Kei replied.
“Do you know the lad?”
“No sir, but I’ve seen him before. He has proven to be kind and his skills are very good. He almost beat the rude man in front of the gate. Actually, he would have won if I hadn’t pulled him away. The man didn’t lay a scratch on this kid.” Kei explained.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“You cannot change your choice.”
“I understand.”
“Well then don’t be alarmed.” The king mumbled. He reached out toward me and grabbed my hat. My hair flew around in little wisps before settling down. I was shocked, but I grinned
“Hi Kei! It’s been awhile!” I said cheerfully. He turned around not facing me. Was he mad? His ears were bright red.
“Um.. Rin. It’s good to see you.” He said, then turned around and held his hand out. Then he finished, “Let our first journey in a long time begin now.” He grinned. I grabbed his hand and we started to walk, side by side, like we did when we were young and foolish.
