I choked on the salt water that somehow made it’s way into my mouth. Kei and I had jumped off the boat and started swimming toward land which was conveniently a couple feet away.
“We… We are alive…” I said, a bit dazed. I looked over at Kei who was holding his arm. It looked painful. Drake, somehow managed to hit him with his sword as we jumped off. Then I remembered my own shoulder injury.
“Are you okay?” Kei asked. I got hit with a bullet while trying to protect Kei. It wasn’t that bad, but it really hurt.
“It’s only a scratch. How ‘bout you?” I asked through clenched teeth.
“I’m fine..” He mumbled, still looking concerned for me. We sat there for a couple of minutes. Then, I started rummaging through some bags we managed to grab before leaving the ship. It contained our clothes, food, some money, canteens for water, and our Ids which were practically useless in our mission. It contained other stuff too. Like bandages. And that was what I was trying to find. I finally found some and went over to Kei to fix his wound. He looked at me with one eyebrow raised.
“I don’t like seeing your own blood getting on your shirt.” I said as an excuse. It was half true though. Actually the real reason was because I felt like I had to take care of him. When I was done, he thanked me. Then, I started working on myself. When we were finally done with resting and everything, we started walking. We realized we swam right to our destination, and all that was left was to get ready for battle. Oh, and figure out were we were going to battle. I guess we didn’t think our plan through. So that night we camped in an area surrounded by trees, with a little stream flowing to a pond. Don’t worry, we weren’t making any fires. That would alert the enemy. Just a bit of info for you.
“It’s like.. snowflakes.. drifting… gently.” I sung in the moonlight near the glistening stream. I couldn’t sleep so I decided to enjoy this beautiful scenery and space out. Then, a little noise frightened me, but it turned out to be Kei. Surprise, surprise. Why do I keep looking up to see his face lately? Beside the fact that he’s taller, I meant like when I tripped and just now. I keep turning around to look at his face.
“Eh- I.. Uh..” He stammered turning red. I tried not to laugh.
“Yeah, I’m singing in the middle of the night. I sing horribly. I dare you to say something.” I stated and challenged at the same time.
“You.. Sing nicely.. Not horrible at all..” He mumbled, catching me totally off guard.
“Ok… Thank you.” I smiled. I continued sing, then realized the actual song I was singing, Eternal Snow, then stopped. Another wall of silence built. I got up and left.
“Goodnight.” I said before leaving. Then, I somehow fell asleep just fine. And in the morning, I woke up to the smell of soot and guns.
“Uh…?” I looked around. I felt as if I was being carried off the ground. I saw Kei near me. He looked pale, and didn’t seem as if he wasn’t breathing. I started panicking, thinking he was dead and screamed his name. The pain in my shoulder then returned.
