sorry this took a while lot of stuff has been going on, but here it is.
Chapter 8
"Death"
outside radio station

John's ears were ringing and his body was sore especially his wrist, he looked over at Mouse. "good she looks uninjured" John thought, he got up and walked over to Mouse " hey, you okay?" John asked,"yeah I'm fine" she replied. Mouse started to get up when a sharp pain shot up her leg and she cringed from the pain. "What's wrong?" John asked, "It's my leg it hurts real bad" She said "Can you still walk?" John asked. "I'll try" she said, Mouse took a step but another sharp pain ran up her leg and she started to fall and John caught her. " let me help you." John said, she nodded and John picked her up "thanks" she said, "No need to thank me, were a team aren't we." John said.
John carried Mouse out of the radio station and met the others outside the station. "Are you two okay?" Mark asked, "My wrist might be broken but other than that I'm fine" John replied, "I think I got some grenade shrapnel in my leg" Mouse said. Everyone looked at Mouse in surprise except John, "What?" John asked. "She just talked" the others said simultaneously.
The sound of zombies was made everyone uneasy, " Lets finish this talk at base" Mark said, and they all started walking back to the warehouse. After a medical examination the only one's hurt were John and Mouse, John had a broken wrist and Mouse had two pieces of shrapnel taken out of her leg. After the medical treatment they all met in the in the make shift living room, " well first thing is we gained a new member today" Mark said. A man around in his thirties stood up, " hello my name is Zack" he said. Everyone introduced themselves to Zack " you go look around the base if you want Zack" Mark said. Zack left the room and Mark turned and pointed at Mouse "Now that you can talk, you got a lot of explaining to do" he said, "You can start with your name".
"My real name is Kara" Kara said, Scott stood up and looked at Kara " Look all I want to know is why the hell your talking now and not before, you know it was a real pain to talk to you." Scott said. "You think I enjoyed not being able to talk !" Kara yelled at Scott, "Well what's the difference from before!" he yelled back. " Quiet!" John yelled, the room went silent and everyone looked at him, " I know why she couldn't talk" John said. "So what made her stop talking then, smart guy" Scotty said. " it's due to a disease, my grandfather had it, he was a Vietnam war veteran, he wouldn't talk, and they had to move him around in a wheelchair" John said " Then one day I was there with my family and the light bulb in the room exploded, sounded just like a gunshot, it must have done the trick because after that he started to talk".
Scotty stared at John confused "Well what the hell knocked her out of her trance?" he asked. " I don't know, and the only person who does is Kara herself" John replied. they looked at her with curiosity, " what happened to snap you out of it?" John asked, "it was when we were in that last room at the radio station, all those torn up bodies, all the blood, the zombies everywhere, it was to much to take" Kara said.
"Someone's outside and there injured! Zack yelled, everyone ran for their guns, John and Marcus reached theirs first and ran out the door. Walking up the street, he looked okay except for he's limping John thought, they ran up to the man and made sure he was alright and uninfected, " your safe now just run towards that warehouse" Marcus said. All three of them started running towards the warehouse when a loud ping came from behind them, they turned and say something shiny laying on the ground, "My pendant" the man said. "John you take him back to base, I’ll grab the pendant and meet you there" Marcus said, John took the guy back to the warehouse then looked to see how Marcus was doing. Marcus picked up the pendant and started running back, suddenly he stopped and lifted his rifle, a creature jumped out knocking Marcus to the ground and started attacking him, gripping his head in it's jaws, "No!" John yelled, he lifted his pistol but was knocked out of the way by someone with a rifle, they shot three times and the creature dropped dead.
Everyone ran towards Marcus’s body, Mark and Lily were the first one’s to reach Marcus’s body. John and the others were running after them, except Kara who was being carried by Jack, apon reaching Marcus’s body their eyes met a horrible sight. Marcus’s head was split open and bleeding badly, there were cuts and scraps all over his body, and his throat had been shredded by the creature’s jaws. Lily started to cry over her brothers dieing body, John turned to look at Kara “Is there any way you can help him?” he asked her. Kara shook her head “He’s been to badly hurt” she said tears swelling in her eyes “Dammit” Lily yelled out, Jenni walked over and put her arm around Lily trying to comfort her, Lily turned and started crying into Jenni’s shoulder, everyone then started crying over their fallen friends body.
Suddenly Lily felt a small tug softly on her pants leg. She turned to see Marcus still breathing, but it was quick and shallow, Lily grabbed his hand, it was starting to feel cold. “Lily……is that you?” Marcus asked, “Yes it’s me Marcus, don’t talk save your breath” Lily said. “I can’t see anything but red” Marcus said quietly. Mark pulled out an old rag and started to wipe the blood out of Marcus’s eyes, “thank you Mark” Marcus said softly. Marcus turned his gaze back to Lily and grabbed her hand, she felt cold metal touch her skin, “Give that back to the man” Marcus whispered, dropping the pendant into her hand, Lily put the pendant in her pocket and grabbed Marcus’s hand again. Marcus’s breathing started to get shallower and quicker, he pulled Lily’s head down, “I love you Lily” he said, his chest dropped and his hand went limp in Lily’s. Lily started to cry even more, “I love you to Marcus” she said between sobs.
Scott went back to the warehouse and grabbed a blanket, covering Marcus’s body with it. “where are we going to bury him?” Scott asked, “ the park on South ave, it was his favorite place here.” Lily said.” John your going to have to help Kara around” Jack said, “okay” John replied. John picked up Marcus’s covered body and everyone started to walk towards the park, the whole time it was quiet. After burying Marcus’s body they went back to the warehouse, John, Mark and Jenni cooked dinner, after the meal Scott reached into a cabinet and pull out some wine, “Mark we can’t drink were under age” John said. “ relax there aren’t exactly any laws anymore, just don’t go overboard” Mark said back. Everyone stood and raised their glasses, “To Marcus” Mark said, “To Marcus” everyone repeated and they drank.
After dinner Jack started washing the dishes while everyone else went to do something else. Jenni went to the computer and began to type something, Mark, Scott, and Zack were playing poker and John didn’t see Lily or Kara. John walked to Kara’s room and knocked on the door, “come in” Kara said. John opened her the door and walked in, over at the poker table Scott looked up, “ have you guys noticed that John and Kara spend a lot of time together” Scott said holding back a chuckle.” Scott just because their spending a lot of time doesn’t mean their in love, their probably just good friends” Jenni said from the computer.”Yeah real good friends” Scott said laughing, “Scott you can be an annoying jackass you know that!” Jenni said angrily. “ Hey now just relax, I’m only joking” Scott said back.
“Kara I have a question, well a couple questions actually” John said, “what do you want to know” Kara said. “Who’s Carson?” John asked, “ oh um……I don’t know” Kara said nervously, “Okay” John replied, “so what was your other question” Kara said. “Oh, what do you do in here, your always run to your room, I was hoping to do something for once” he said, “ I paint in here that’s why” Kara replied. “oh” John said, “what is that supposed to mean?” Kara said an edge of annoyance in her voice, “nothing, I just like art and I didn’t expect an artist “ John said. Kara looked at him and smiled, “what were planning on doing then?” Kara asked “well I didn’t really think of that” John said, he stood there thinking and so did Kara. “ this will probably sound really stupid but how about chess?” she asked, “Sure that would be great, In fact I used to be in a chess club” John said. “Where you want to play?” Kara asked, “How about out by the others” John said, Kara nodded and grabbed a chess board and pieces out of her closet and they went out by the others. Jenni stopped typing and walked over by John and Kara, “what are you guys doing?” Jenni asked, “playing chess” John replied setting up his pieces. “Chess, wow never would have taken you for a chess player John” Jenni said, “can I watch” she asked, “sure” John and Kara said. John and Kara began to play and Jenni sat down to watch, after four hours the game ended in a stalemate, “you guys are really good” Jenni said. “thanks” John and Kara said, “I can play chess pretty good but you guys would beat me easily” Jenni said. “I’m sure you’re a good enough player” John said, “ John come here” Mark said, “okay I’m coming” John said. John walked over to the other room where Mark was, “John tomorrow you and Zack will start your mechanics training” Mark said. “okay” John said, John started walking back by Jenni and Kara when he heard a loud thump in Lily’s room. John stopped and knocked on her door, “Lily are you okay?” John asked, no answer came from the room, “Lily I’m coming in” John said. “John what are you doing?” a girls voice asked, he turned around to see Jenni and Kara standing behind him, John turn back around and opened Lily’s door and looked into her room. Lily was laying face down on the floor, “Lily are you okay?” John asked, no answer or movement came from Lily. John walked over to Lily and turned her over and saw a giant gash in her left wrist, she was holding a knife in her right, a knife sharpener laid next to her body, She must have slipped with the knife! John thought. “oh god!” John said, “Kara, get your medic kit Lily’s hurt bad!” John yelled. Kara ran in holding the medic kit and started to work on Lily, “Someone get me some water” Kara said. Jenni ran into the kitchen and grabbed a pot, filling it with water she ran back to Lily’s room and set the water next to Kara, Kara started to wash out the wound and started to apply bandages. “Do you need anything else?” John asked, “Just quietness and room” Kara said while bandaging Lily.
John and Jenni were waiting outside, after a couple hours Kara walked out of the room. “How is she?” John and Jenni asked, “Not to well, unless she gets a blood transfusion she probably won’t live past tomorrow” Kara said, “well lets get her the transfusion” John said. “I can’t, I don’t have the equipment” Kara said, “Were would we get the equipment Kara?” Jenni asked. “We would have to take her to a hospital and find someone with the same blood type as her” Kara said, “ then lets gear up and get moving to a hospital” John said. “alright but you’ll have to carry Lily” Kara said to John, washing her hands in the water in the pot.
“You can’t go” Jenni said, John and Kara looked at Jenni in surprise, “why not?” John asked, “it’s to dangerous the hospital will be filled with the infected” Jenni said, “Lets just keep a watch on her until morning and then we’ll ask Mark what to do”. “the faster we get her there the better chance she has to live” Kara said, “I know but if you go now you three wouldn’t be alive in the morning” Jenni said back. “ Hey you guys better get some sleep it’s getting late” Jack yelled from the other room.
