Episode 3: Mel’s Arrival
Breakfast at Yuri’s and Lina’s house…
Yuri and Lina were having breakfast while chatting with Mel who was broadcasting online.
“Okay. Uh…I have good news.”
“Right. What good news?” Lina asked, digging in her cornflakes.
“Alright, ready?”
“Just get it over with, Mel…” Yuri told her.
Mel giggled. “Okay. Next week, I’m off to Korea!”
Lina and Yuri stopped eating. “What?!”
Mel nodded. “I got assignment done there. Dakara, I’m off to Korea.”
Lina gulped. “How long?”
“Maybe months. It’s a huge assignment. They said. I wondered why they send me.”
“That’s great…”
Mel grinned. “I know…”
“You’re staying with us?”
“Can I?”
“Sure.”
“I’ll pay the rent too! Don’t worry…Oh, I have to go…Later! Enjoy your breakfast.”
“Bye.”
Then, she’s gone from the screen.
Lina turned to Yuri immediately. “Oh my God! How are we going to tell her that the TVXQ and Super Junior live next door?!”
Yuri continued eating her scrambled eggs. “I don’t know. That’s your problem. I told you to tell her before…” Lina bit her bottom lip.
Suddenly, their doorbell rang. Yuri and Lina turned to each other.
“Neighbours?” Yuri asked. She’s referring to the TVXQ and Super Junior who always comes for a visit.
“Too early…They usually come a bit later than this.”
Lina walked slowly to open it. When she opened the door…Mel was standing there, with her luggage and a very big smile.
“Hey. Surprised?”
“Mel!!!” Lina screamed in horror. Mel frowned.
“Okay…That’s not the respond I imagined…”
Yuri walked over and she stopped in her tracks. “Did you just teleport from Japan?”
Mel laughed. “No. While chatting with you guys, I was in the taxi…”
“How did you know our house?”
“You gave me the address so that I could send back your books, remember?”
Lina and Yuri remained quiet. The atmosphere was…awkward.
“You guys are not thrilled to see me…”
We’re guilty, more like it…Yuri thought.
“No. We’re very surprised.” Lina told her.
Mel smiled. “I knew it’ll work. So, you’re not going to invite me in?”
“Oh, sorry. Come on, in…”
Mel entered the house. When she saw the interior of the house, she gaped in awe. “Whoa…Nice house. Makes my hostel looked like a tent…”
Lina grinned. “I picked it. Yuri didn’t do anything, really…” Lina dragged Mel’s suitcases. “You brought a lot of stuffs with you…”
Mel smiled. “You know me…”
Yuri pulled Mel’s hand and brought her upstairs. “Checkout our rooms! It’s fabulous!”
Lina sighed. She heard laughter from her left and she turned. The TVXQ and Super Juniors were having their breakfast. Then, her eyes dropped on Sungmin who realizes she was watching. He smiled and waved. Lina forced a smile and waved back. When she sees Mel’s suitcases, she knows…
“She’s gonna kill us…”
Upstairs…
“This is Lina’s and this is my room.” Yuri told Mel. “And…there’s sliding door between us! Cool, huh?”
“Yeah…This house is awesome.”
Yuri dragged Mel to the room opposite hers. “And this shall be your room!”
Mel entered the room and she looked around. Mel’s room was directly beside Donghae’s and Sungmin’s room.
“You go and look around. I’ll go and pick your bags.” Mel turned to Yuri and nodded.
The balcony of their rooms meets each other and Mel walked over. She could see clearly Donghae’s and Sungmin’s room. Then, she saw a guy who looked like Donghae getting out of the room. Mel smiled. Then, she heard Yuri struggling with her suitcases. She turned around to Yuri.
“You know, I think I’m mad.”
“Why?” Yuri asked, brought up Mel’s suitcase with great difficulty.
“I just saw Donghae next door.”
Yuri accidentally dropped the suitcase on her foot. “Ow!!!” Yuri looked at Mel. “Did you say Donghae? Ow…”
Mel laughed. “I was just kidding. He looked like Donghae.” Mel crouched beside Yuri. “Are you alright?”
Yuri forced a smile. “Yeah…”
She’s gonna kill us…Yuri thought.
Downstairs…At the kitchen…
Mel was sitting with Yuri at the dining table, eating cookies. Lina was out back, taking the garbage.
“So, met your neighbours?”
Yuri stopped munching her cookie. She nodded slowly.
“How are they?” Mel asked curious.
“Um…” Yuri licked her lips. “Fine. They’re sweet.”
“Yuri! Help me, please!” Lina called.
Yuri stood immediately. “Sure!” She grinned to Mel. “Well, you just enjoy the cookies for awhile.”
Mel nodded. “Or you can watch TV if you want. But, there’s no subs…”
“Okay,” Mel answered.
“If you need anything you can call me…anytime…”
“Yuri, I’m your friend. Not a hotel guest…”
Yuri stared. “Right, make yourself at home! Ha-ha-ha…”
Then, Lina and Yuri walked outside to put out the garbage.
“Anything?” Lina asked her.
“She saw Donghae. But, she thought it was just a look alike…”
“Okay. I’m blank…”
Yuri groaned. “I told you…”she said, gritting her teeth. “We should have told her earlier…”
Then, Kangin walked out and greet them. They smiled and waved.
“Hey…” Kangin held up a newspaper. “We got extras. You guys want this?”
Yuri and Lina looked at each other. “Uh, sure! Throw it over!” Yuri told him.
Kangin threw it directly at them. Yuri saw it coming, ducked immediately. Lina meanwhile got hit straight at the face.
“Ow!”
Yuri laughed loudly.
“Sorry!” Lina glared at Kangin who was laughing loudly. Then, he entered inside.
“Luckily you’re a Super Junior…or else…” Lina said under her breath.
“That guy looked like Kangin.”
Lina and Yuri stunned and they turned around slowly. Mel was standing behind them.
“Mel!” Lina smiled. “Uh, what are you doing here?”
“I’m staying here, remember?”
“Oh.”
Mel looked at the two of them. “You know, the two of been acting kinda strange….” Mel folded her arms at her chest. “You’re hiding something, right?”
“Uh…” Lina and Yuri looked at each other.
Some guys walked out from next door and the girls automatically turned. It was Donghae, Sungmin, Yoochun, Siwon, and Junsu. They’re wearing jerseys, caps and hoodies. Obviously, hiding their faces. They waved at the girls.
“Lina, Yuri! Morning!” Junsu greeted.
“Morning…” they replied…uncomfortable.
“We’re off to exercise…Want to come along?” Yoochun told them.
“Maybe some other time. We got loads to do…” then Yuri turned to look at Mel. “…and settle…” Mel was staring directly at Sungmin. She looked…mad.
“Okay, Later.” Siwon waved and all of them jog away.
Lina and Yuri turned to look immediately at Mel.
“You know. Say, those guys are only the look alike of Super Junior and TVXQ. I must say. They look too much alike.” Mel narrowed her eyes at Lina and Yuri. “Unless…”
“Please don’t kill us!!!” both of them begged.
“Ah. So my guess is true. You’re hiding something from me!” Mel exploded. “And it is big and…how could you!”
“We…were…”
“Super Junior and TVXQ live next door and you guys didn’t tell me!!!” Mel walked passed them towards the lawn. “Just great.” Then, she walked away to the park near by.
“Mel, wait! Mel!” Lina called. She wanted to chase Mel but Yuri stopped her.
“Leave her. You know how she is…”
“Who was that?” Kibum asked. He was standing beside the girls’ letterbox, holding a container. Leeteuk, Shindong, Jaejoong, Changmin, and Eunhyuk were with him.
“Oh, Kibum-sshi. That was our friend.” Yuri sighed.
“Is she okay? She sounds mad…” Changmin asked.
Note : The girls were talking in their native language…Dakara, those guys didn’t understand a word…and…they didn’t catch the ‘Super Junior’ and ‘TVXQ’ coz Mel talks fast…
“Yeah…we just had a misunderstanding.” Lina replied. “What’s up?”
“Ah, right. Uh, this is some kimchi our hero made.” Kibum handed the container.
“Thanks. Come in, we made some cookies just now.” Yuri told them. Then, she got an idea. “I want to bake a cake too…”
“A cake? Why?” Eunhyuk asked as they walked to the front step.
“For our friend. She loves cakes. Chocolate cake…”
“That’s a great idea, Yuri!” Lina exclaimed. “Let’s get started.”
“Can I help?” Jaejoong asked.
“Sure! We need everybody to cool her off.” Yuri told him.
In the kitchen…and dining table…
Yuri and Jaejoong was busy baking the cake while the others all sat at the dining table. All of them chat with the smell of chocolate cake filled around them.
“So…this friend of yours a Japanese girl?” Leeteuk asked before gulping his orange juice.
“No. She’s from Malaysia like us. It’s just she’s studying in Japan.” Lina explained. “She’s studying about this manga-comic kinda thing…I don’t really know what it is…”
“Oh. So, why is she here? For a visit?” Changmin asked.
“No. She got some kind of assignment done here.”
“Why she’s upset just now?” Eunhyuk asked vulnerably.
“Eunhyuk, tsk.” Leeteuk shook his head.
Lina smiled. “It’s okay, Leeteuk-oppa.” Lina turned to Eunhyuk. “It’s nothing. Don’t worry.”
Suddenly, Yuri and Jaejoong sighed loudly. All of them turned around at the kitchen.
“What’s wrong?” Kibum asked. Both of them put out their cake. It was deflated.
“It’s okay. Try again.” Lina said.
“So easy for you to say…” Yuri sighed again. Then, the doorbell rang. Lina and Yuri looked at each other.
“Oh, no…That must be her…” Lina groaned.
“No. It’s Kangin and the others.” Shondong answered. Sure enough there were sounds of guys making noise outside. Changmin walked over and opened the door.
“…and…and I threw it. Bam! It hit her face directly. Her face was red! Haha! It was so funny! Her nose was like a clown and…and…what?” Kangin stopped talking and looked at the others who were pointing behind him. He turned around and Lina was standing there. She looked furious.
“Talk about me, huh?” Are you done?” Lina was just about to smack Kangin with the newspaper he threw earlier, but Yuri stopped her.
“Lina, stop it! Why don’t you just help me here?”
Lina glared at Kangin’s mischievous face and headed to the kitchen. “We’re not done yet, Kangin-sshi!”
“I know, Lina-sshi…” Kangin replied. Then, all of them (Kyuhyun, Yunho, Heechul, Hankyung, Ryeowook and Yesung) entered the house. Kangin stopped at the living room. “Whoa. How come their house interior looks better?” Then, he walked towards the dining table and sat beside Leeteuk.
“I know.” Leeteuk told him. “I was surprised too. Unfair, huh?”
“What are you guys doing?” Kyuhyun asked, standing beside Lina who was washing the baking utensils at the sink. She blushed. Kyuhyun has always been her favourite in the Super Junior.
Note : It’s Kyuhyun’s voice that kills her. Mel and Yuri too…Aaarrghh!!!
“A chocolate cake for our friend.” Lina told him.
“Oh, a new neighbour. Where is she? We’d love to meet her.” Yesung claimed, grabbing a cookie. He bit into it. “Wow. Delicious!”
“She left for awhile. She’ll be back later.”
“Where do you guys study?” Ryeowook asked while settling down.
“University of Seoul. But, we start in two weeks.”
“You guys still studying?” Yuri asked. Jaejoong struggled beside her mixing the ingredients. Yuri stared at him. Some of the chocolate hit his face and Yuri laughed. “Not too harsh, Oppa.”
“Not all of us…” Hankyung answered.
“Oh, yeah. I don’t see any car parked outside…How are you girls going to the university? Walking?” Heechul said as he walked over and stood beside Yuri. He grabbed some almond and threw them in his mouth. The almond was supposed to use for baking the cake. Yuri turned to him and he grinned as if he did nothing wrong.
“We have a driver and our car is very big and spacious. 30 people can fill in it at once.” Lina hold back her laughter. All of them silence for awhile, trying to find out the girls’ car. Lina and Yuri pressed their lips.
“All I know, only a bus can fill 30 people at once…” Hankyung told them.
“That’s right.” Yuri giggled.
“You tried to fool us…” Shindong laughed.
“Why don’t we all just carpool?” Kyuhyun suggested.
“Yeah. It’ll save your budget.” Eunhyuk told them.
“You guys don’t really have to do that…”Lina replied. “We’re just gonna use the bus…”
“Oh, come on… We’re neighbours. We should help each other…” Yunho said, smiling at her.
At last the cake was done…
“I think she’ll forgive us. I mean, the cake is perfect…” Yuri told them.
“Yeah…” They all replied.
Everybody was huddling close to the cake. Shindong tried to poke some of its icing but Jaejoong slapped his hand.
“Not my masterpiece…” Yuri looked at him. She raised her eyebrows. “I mean, our…masterpiece.”
“Come tonight and we’ll eat it together…” Lina told all of them. “If she’s not gonna have it to herself…”
Leeteuk sighed. “Well, we’re just gonna leave. But, we’ll come back to meet this friend of yours…”
“Okay.” Yuri said.
“Bye. Later.” Heechul told them. He smiled gorgeously at Yuri. “Bye, Yuri…”
Then, all of them move out of the house. Kangin was the last to leave.
“Lina-sshi, if you want newspaper again tomorrow, don’t forget to wear a helmet.” Then, he winked and closed the door.
“I think I’m gonna hate him…”
Yuri laughed. “Whatever. I can’t believe I just bake a cake with Jaejoong.” Then, she sighed. “Heechul even said my name…’Yuri.’.” Then, she giggled.
Lina rolled her eyes. Then, she smiled. “It’s amazing how wonderful life is…Isn’t it?”
Yuri hugged the apron Jaejoong worn earlier. “Jaejoong-oppa…”
Lina sighd. “Oh, dear…She got it bad…”
Evening…When Mel returned…
“Mel…we’re sorry! We were waiting for the right timing to tell you. We didn’t expect all this could happen.” Yuri told her.
Mel ignored her and her eyes fixed on the television. Yuri turned to Lina and signaled her to bring out the cake from the fridge.
“Mel, this is made especially for you. Jaejoong and I bake this cake together. Can you believe it? The others also helped decorating it…Please forgive us…”
The moment she saw the cake, Mel immediately smile. She took the cake to the dining table and went to the kitchen. Yuri and Lina just followed her. She grabbed a knife and a spoon then returned to the cake. She sat down and cut a quarter just for herself.
“I forgive you guys already…”
Yuri and Lina smiled and hugged her. “We know you love us!”
Mel turned to them. “I love the chocolate cake…”
Then, the three of them just stared at each other. But, then the doorbell rang. They let go of Mel and Mel ignored the door. She put on her ipod and she dig in to the cake.
Lina and Yuri walked to the door together. “Lately, the doorbell can’t seem to shut up…” Lina said to Yuri. Yuri laughed and she opened the door.
“Hey, Yuri. Lina.” Jaejoong waved.
“Come in. Again.” Lina said, smiling.
All Super Junior and TVXQ entered the house. Mel was so captivated to the cake, she didn’t realise their presence…
Sungmin turned to Lina and Yuri. “So, where’s your friend?”
They nodded to the dining table where Mel enjoyed her cake and her loud ipod. Sungmin walked slowly to Mel and he sat in front of her. She didn’t realises Sungmin was there, so Sungmin waves his hand in front of her face.
“Hellooo…”
Mel looked up and she coughed. It caused all the chocolate cake splattered at Sungmin’s pretty face. Sungmin closed his eyes. All of them laughed at Sungmin. Mel pulled away her ipod. She grabbed a couple ply of tissues and she wiped Sungmin’s face with it.
“I’m terribly sorry…”she told him in English.
Note : Mel doesn’t understand Hangul at all. Not a word. Nothing.
Sungmin opened his eyes and Mel stopped wiping his face. He smiled and he started to laugh.
“A very unique way of replying my greeting…” Sungmin told her in Hangul. Mel looked at him. She looked blur. Sungmin looked at her carefully. “Got it?” Mel frowned, miserable. “The chocolate cake…” Sungmin indicated.
Mel bit her lower lip. “I don’t understand any Hangul…” she told him. (English)
Sungmin turned to Lina and Yuri.
“She only understands and fluent in Japanese. But not in Hangul…” Lina explained.
Sungmin returned to look at Mel. Then, he smirked. “Oh. Okay…Well, I’m Sungmin…” Though he’s speaking in Hangul, Mel understands he was introducing himself.
“Mel or Hikaru is my Japanese name…” she’s speaking in English.
Note : The girls talk with each other using their native language. While Yuri and Lina talk with Super Junior and TVXQ in Korea. When Mel talks it’s usually in English. But, any conversation in English and Japanese will be indicated…
“Hikaru…” Sungmin grinned and held his hand. Mel blushed and shook it.
Out of nowhere, Yoochun pushed Sungmin aside and he holds Mel’s hand. He smiled adorably at her. “I’m Micky Yoochun. I ca-” He said in Japanese. Then, Kangin cut Yoochun’s sentence. He took Mel’s hand.
“I’m Kangin. Hello.” Kangin said in English. He raised his eyebrows.
Then, all of them gather around Mel and introduced themselves to her. Eventhough it was unnecessary as Mel knows all of them, she doesn’t mind at all.
Then again, if your famous and favourite artists are you neighbours, can you keep up to the world around you while you’re drooling?
Definitely ‘no’.
