Today, Marvel.com reveals that the 2012 movie The Avengers has been granted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences a nomination for the "Best Visual Effects" category at the 85th Annual Awards event (or in other words, the 85th Oscars event), scheduled to take place on 02/24/2013, starting at 7:00 PM ET. According to IMDB, this is the only superhero movie of 2012 to get an oscar nomination (shame that neither The Amazing Spider-Man nor The Dark Knight Rises got any).

My congrats to the movie's visual effects team for receiving this honor, and I will be rooting for this amazing superhero flick to win in this category. To all you North America-based Marvel Universe fans out there, the event will air on U.S. network ABC. So make sure to tune in to see if the films wins.
