The helicopter landed several times before it turned course and began to make the trek to Mello’s old Mafia building. On one of the stops, Ryuza got off and told Soji to wait for him at the hideout while he dealt with a few things.
“Please don’t go,” Soji begged. She refused to be alone in the helicopter, but Ryuza refused.
“I have matters that need to be taken care of. Soji, please stay safe,” Ryuza smiled, “I love you.”
The words once again hit Soji’s ears. They were new to her and sounded foreign. No one had ever said them before due to the circumstances in which she grew up, but now the worlds feel to her. Tears were forming in her eyes now, and the wound became admitted as her heart pounded blood faster to and from it.
“Ryuza, I love you too,” Soji whispered.
“Then stay safe,” Ryuza said, “and keep that Note with you. I won’t ask where you got it, but I know you won’t be like Kira. You did what you had to. Please stay safe.”
“Ryuza, what are you going to do?” Soji asked.
“I have to go back to Near. He can’t do anything about it because you are no longer in the U.S. but I have to go back.”
“He’ll torture you,” Soji sobbed, “this was my fault! Please don’t do this for me!”
“Soji, I love you, and I’d do anything for you. I’ve always know I loved you. Even when we were back at the House I loved you. I remember the first time you came to the House. I remember the time we both got Mello to steal chocolate and then stole it from him. I remember that you sent a letter to me after Matt and Mello were killed. ‘Don’t worry, I’m fine’ that’s what you wrote. Now I’m saying it. Don’t worry I’ll be fine.”
“Ryuza!” Soji cried.
A soft hand went to Soji’s face then lips on hers. Tears formed again and threatened to break the kiss, but it stayed.
“I’ll be ok Soji,” Ryuza said as he broke the kiss and walked away leaving Soji to fly away in the helicopter.
“Man you two must really love each other,” the pilot smiled.
“Ryuza,” Soji sighed, “be careful.”
The helicopter flew for what seemed like hours until it landed somewhere in a vast expanse of desert. The sand burned Soji’s eyes as she exited the helicopter. The pilot exited as well turning off his large machine. Taking out a key, he walked off a few feet away. Soji followed him and found the beginnings of a steel door half buried in the sand.
“This was one of Mello’s hideouts,” the pilot said flatly, “Ryuza and I are the only ones that know about it. The original owners are dead or rather killed by Kira. It is completely top secret, but I have to warn you, there is a smell of smoke that won’t seem to leave.”
“Matt,” Soji said softly, “Matt smoked a lot.”
The pilot opened the hatch and held it open for Soji. As she walked inside, the pilot handed her the entrance key and walked her down the steep stairs to the bottom. Surprisingly all the lights were already turned on and a few of the T.V.s broadcasted reports. There was a kitchen and a bathroom to Soji’s right and a den with a leather couch opened up in front of her.
“Mello always did like leather,” Soji mused.
“The smell of smoke reminded Soji of the days of the Wammy House. Matt had been a chain smoker for as long as anyone at the House could remember. No one was sure what made him start, but he never stopped after that.
“There is a private bedroom to your left and a computer room to your right,” the pilot said. Forgetting that he was hear and then suddenly reminded, Soji jumped.
Soji proceeded to the computer room and found most of the laptops and other electronics still there. Memory chips had been taken, but the main hard-drives were intact. Soji left the room and walked on to Mello’s couch. As she sat down, Soji’s muscles relaxed a bit and the Note she had been clinging to fell forward a bit.
“So this is the secret Mello base,” the sound of Isisca’s voice bounced off the walls.
Soji looked over and saw the shinigami sitting relaxed on the couch next to her.
“Where did you go when I was out?” Soji asked quietly so as not to alert the pilot who had taken off towards the kitchen.
“Well I was returning the Note I borrowed for the show that you put on, Isisca laughed, “It was Ryuk’s after all. He has so many Notes right now it is not funny.”
“The show?” Soji asked irritated, “that was a show to you?”
“But of course! And what a splendid show you put on. I can’t wait to see what you do next!” Isica laughed.
“I will wait here for Ryuza,” Soji answered.
“And watch as he is captured by Near’s men and tortured because he helped you escape. Wow I would have never expected that from a child like you.”
“No, Ryuza will return. I know it.”
“Suit yourself, but when you find out that your precious Ryuza will die, I wonder what you will do next.”
“What do you mean? I saw his lifespan was 175 whatever that means and as long as a shinigami doesn’t get him then he should be fine,” Soji said curling up into the couch.
“Hahahahah those numbers represent the number of shinigami days that they still have,” Isica said happily. “And one shinigami day is around one hour here,” Isica measured.
“Then….Ryuza!” Soji sat up terrified, “then Ryuza will die in little over a week?”
“Yep.”
What will Soji do? Find out in the next reading of Soji Note. ^_^
Ok so I came home and reread my ending to Soji Story and nearly flipped out! What was I on? It must have been one of those really strong drugs. That was not what I had wanted the ending to be like. This is the real ending I envisioned.
Ryuza walked slowly with both of his arms holding Soji who was still bleeding. Soji had managed to hide the Death Note away from Ryuza’s eyes before he had seen what she had done, but there was still the matter of leaving. The weasel man posed no threat, but there were guards to deal with.
“Soji, we need to get out of here. Do you have a plan?” Ryuza asked as he slipped into a corner.
“Get to the roof,” Soji whispered. Each word caused her side to scream in pain and more blood to run out onto Ryuza’s hands. “We can use a helicopter on the roof. This building was once Youtsuba’s they had a landing space for a helicopter. Get to the roof and then use this.”
Soji handed Ryuza what looked like a pager. Ryuza moved Soji to his back, and she wrapped her arms around his neck and put her legs in the crook of his arms. Ryuza opened the pager and found that there was only one button. This is the button! Ryuza thought. This is the alert button that was handed to every Wammy child. It was a signal that they were in trouble, and since it worked only in semi-close range Near was sure to be the one to receive the call.
“Good going Soji,” Ryuza said, but Soji was fading fast. Her own breathing was forcing more blood from the wound.
Ryuza stormed the stairs not wanting to risk that more enemies would be inside the elevator. His powerful legs propelled them several flights of stairs before he meet several sharp shooters aiming at him. Dam! Ryuza thought to himself. I can’t do anything with Soji on my back. What can I do?
Unknown to Ryuza, Soji was fighting a personal battle in her own mind. Fears of using the Death Note clashed with fears of dying. Did I do the right thing? I had to. It was the only way….but I killed him… Finally a thought came to her. I needed to kill him! I needed to! I need to kill now! Ryuza! I need to protect him!
“Do you want the eyes?” a silent voice asked.
“Yes,” Soji said quietly.
Soji looked up at the sharp shooters with the red shinigami eyes. Their names were clear, and their life spans floated happily.
“Die,” Soji said as she reached into her coat, grabbed the Note, and wrote again in her own blood the names of the shooters. One by one they fell clenching their hearts not knowing what had befallen them falling into the chaos of the afterlife.
Soji slipped the Note back in its place next to her heart as a stunned Ryuza realized that he could run freely now and proceeded onward to the roof. More soldiers came, and once again Soji killed them. It was a mass of heart attacks one after the other after the other.
“Die, Die,Die!” Soji hummed to herself, “You will not hurt Ryuza! Die!”
Soon they were at the top, and the blood loss Soji had befallen was threatening to take her life.
“Ryuza, I can’t make it,” Soji said softly into Ryuza’s ear.
“Soji we are almost there! You can make it! Near’s helicopter is right there!”
“Hehehehe I protected the one thing that mattered to me,” Soji smiled as she felt Death approaching softly and quietly like little cat foot prints like the kitty that was waiting with Near back home.
Soji opened her eyes slowly realizing that she was not dead. It was a funny feeling not to be dead. Her head pounded with anger over the blood loss, and the area on her side where she was shot had been sewn up but still stung as she rolled her fingers on it.
“So you are awake,” a calm voice said.
Soji looked to the corner where Near sat on a stool.
“Near,” Soji smiled.
“You took quite a lot of damage, but you killed a lot as well. We found this on you,” Near said holding up the Death Note, “Now I don’t know for sure if it is real because when I touched it, I did not see a shinigami, but there are the names of all the men that died of heart attacks including Xero in here. Soji, tell me, did you use the Note?”
“Near, I did use the Note, but to protect myself. It would be like an officer using a gun. What do you want to happen Near?” Soji asked calmly.
“You will….”
Suddenly the sound of breaking glass shattered Near’s voice. Smoke entered the room and flooded it causing a black mist. As Soji coughed, she felt Ryuza’s hand on her shoulder.
“Soji, it is time to leave,” Ryuza whispered an inch from Soji’s ear, “we don’t have much time. Near plans to lock you away, but I knew what you did it for…please let me repay the debt.”
“Ryuza, you are sweet, but I am willing to accept the consequences for my actions,” Soji whispered back.
“But I am not,” Ryuza finished as he picked the girl up.
“Sir,” a voice came from the smoke, “we have the Note! Near is captured at the moment. What are your orders?”
“Keep Near held until Soji and I leave, then get out yourself!” Ryuza answered.
With Soji clinging to the Death Note in his arms, Ryuza lunged from the window and landed in a helicopter. Others soon followed, and the helicopter sped away.
“Soji, for now you will have to go into hiding with that book. Use it to protect yourself. I love you Soji, please don’t do anything reckless,” Ryuza talked, “I will come see you when things have quieted down. Please stay safe. For me.”
“Ryuza,” Soji started, “I love you too, and I don’t want you to become an outlaw for me. Please don’t do this!”
“Soji, for now, we will use Mello’s contact in the Mafia to protect you. Please do this for me.”
“Alright Ryuza,” Soji sighed.
To be continued?????
Ya this is kinda a sucky ending, but it was the best I could come up with while some crazy lady picked and poked at my fingers telling me that I should take better care of my nails at the spa.
Soji returned to Near’s headquarters and told of what happened. She left out the part of using the Death Note, and Near seemed oddly quiet.
“Why would the shinigami suddenly kill him? It makes no sense unless there is a second person with a Death Note,” Near spoke aloud.
“Near, you knew about Xero from the beginning. Why didn’t you tell me he had a Death Note,” Soji asked trying to throw Near off the suspicion of another Kira.
“I knew that you wouldn’t go if there was a Death Note involved. I know you are very emotional about the entire subject of Kira due to the first L’s death, so I hoped to shield you from it,” Near replied.
“And instead had me walking blindly into a trap,” Soji said angrily.
“I am sorry about that. By the way, are you sure that the shinigami took the Note back?”
“Ryuza said he saw it being picked up by something unseen and then disappearing. I didn’t see,” Soji answered.
“And the man had shinigami eyes?” Near asked.
“Hey knew both Soji and my real names. That is the only way that he could have known.”
“I see and he told you his name straight out?” Near asked.
I don’t like where this is going, but I have to go along or risk being caught with something. The Death Note is with me right now. I could just turn it in to Near saying that I found it on the weasel man. That is all I would need to do, but still…the Note….Could I trust it with Near? I will have to. I killed someone. I need to get the Note as far away from me as possible.
“Yes,” Ryuza answered. The sound of Ryuza’s voice snapped Soji back into reality.
“Near….” Soji started. “I found something while I was snooping around after Xero was killed. I’m sorry that I never told you Ryuza, but I was afraid still. Near look.”
Soji handed the Death Note to Near whose eyes grew astoundingly and then relaxed again.
“This is another Death Note,” Near said matter of factly.
“But the scary part is on the inside Near…look at the first page,” Soji said softly.
“The name of….. Someone deliberately killed Xero and then dropped the Note. But why? I will have the Note dusted for fingerprints. Soji thank you for giving this to me,” Near said serenely.
“Near, the name is written in blood….and I picked it off a table in one of the science rooms. Could the culprit be a doctor?” Soji asked begging Near to buy it.
“That could be a possibility, but if that is true then they were probably using gloves and the only prints that we will find will be yours…Soji are you comfortable with leaving this in protective custody?”
“Only if you lock it away with twenty of your most trusted people each holding a fifty five digit code needed to open the box,” Soji answered, “I don’t want a remote chance that the book will fall into the wrong hands and….due what happened to L to you…”
“Soji,” Ryuza said quietly.
“I don’t want to see a death like that ever again,” Soji sobbed, and her knees hit the floor.
“Soji, please go back to the C.I.A. You will be fine there, and you may forget about this incident if that is fine with you,” Near said looking blankly at Soji.
“Please Near, keep that book locked away and never use it…please.”
“Yes I will now go Soji,” Near said taking the Note.
Soji lay in bed that night thinking of what had happened.
“So you gave the Note to that Near kid hu Soji? Well since you gave it to him, that means that you are no longer the owner, and I must take your memories,” a voice came from the shadows.
“Isica, yes take it all away. I want to go back to normal and never have to deal with this ever again. Do me a favor though, don’t tell Near about what I did.”
“Like I would,” Isica responded, “That boy seemed like more fun to watch. Good-bye Soji.”
Memories were destroyed that night and the next day, Soji woke with no memory of the Note she had used and false memories of her finding the Note in the science area. She woke and was a normal super genius head of the C.I.A. And that was all for Soji’s story.
~The End~
Soji stood frozen in fear at her own idea. How could she have thought to use the Note? Her knees trembled as she reached for the Note.
“Xavier! Xavier Heartwrite! You will not hurt any more people!” Ryuza shouted but was suddenly silenced as a foot kicked him in the side.
“Now knowing my name will do no good nor will shouting it,” Xero laughed, “I have the Death Note here. Rem’s Death Note that Kira used for a while. I am its true inheritor, and I have the shinigami eyes Ryuza or should I say Ray Harper.”
Ray Harper! That is Ryuza’s real name! This man does have the shinigami eyes! He is just toying with Ryuza. I have to stop Xavier before he kills Ryuza! The Death Note? No I could never use it! No. Just his face and his name….no I have to stop him not kill him. But he must also have a shinigami! Just his face…no….I can’t kill….
“So you are going to use it,” Isica’s voice laughed.
Soji followed the sound and found the shinigami sitting on the ceiling upside down.
“How long have you been there?” Soji mouthed.
“The entire time. I figured watching Xero beat the living day lights out of your boyfriend was more entertaining that your personal struggle. Sorry, but that’s how I am.”
“Is there a shinigami?” Soji mouthed again.
“Why should I tell you?” Isica asked smiling for the first time.
Fine Soji thought. I’ll do this on my own.
Soji put the Death Note back in her bag, pulled out her gun, and rounded the corner. There standing in the room was the man known as Xero with his foot on Ryuza’s head.
“Ahh you must be the marvelous little intruder Seta Soji,” Xero smiled.
Xero was not a pretty man, but rather he had black sheets of hair that covered his eyes. His chin jutted out and seemed to be military sawed. Another man stood slightly to Xero’s right which Soji guessed was the weasel man.
“Or should I say Sarah Ls? Yes I have the shinigami eyes, and I would have to say good bye Sarah,” Xero said happily. His hand reached for the book chained to his side, and Soji fired one shot. The shot hit his hand and the book went flying.
“Now now that wasn’t very nice,” Xero laughed.
Soji felt a bullet go through her side, and as she fell, she saw the weasel man looking very happy. Her body hit the floor and a splash of blood could be heard.
“Soji!” Ryuza screamed in terror.
“Now you will suffer for shooting me Sarah Ls,” Xero laughed.
“No!” Soji her hand reached the Death Note and before she could think, she wrote in her own blood Xavier Heartwrite. Xavier didn’t notice at first and proceeded towards Soji with a gun in his hand.
“No I won’t kill you using the Note I will put ten…..*ugh*” Xero fell forward and hit the ground holding his heart.
“What is going on?!” Xavier asked, “Isica what is this? Why are you killing me?”
Isica? Did he say Isica? This was all a play by that shinigmai!
“I am not the one killing you Xavier. I told you in the beginning that I would give another Note to an enemy of yours. She is the one with the Note, and now she has won by killing you. Good bye Xavier,” Isica laughed picking up the other Death Note and placing it somewhere inside her ice.
“Master Xavier!” the weasel voice cried out in terror.
Ryuza who had gotten to his feet tackled the man and beat him unconscious. Soji curled into a ball and cried. She had been tricked into using the Note. The Death Note that had killed L, she had used it to kill. She was no better than Kira.
“Well that was fun Soji, but I am tired of this show, so I’m going to go away for a while. I’ll leave the Death Note with you to do what you like with it. Heheheheheheheheehehehehe such a lovely sight. The other Note will be taken back to the shinigami world.”
She got to me, Soji sobbed. She got to me, and I killed a man. There is no way that I can get away from it. Near will find out and have me charged with being Kira. And I can’t run. I killed a man. I killed him.
“Soji, are you ok?” Ryuza asked softly.
“He’s dead, D-E-A-D dead,” Soji sobbed.
“A heart attack because of the shinigami he took the Death Note from, but the Note is no longer here. I saw it disappear.”
“What do you mean? Didn’t you ever touch the Note?” Soji asked astounded. There was still a chance!
“No, but he talked about it so much that it was almost like I could see it. He was talking to it in the last. Are you ok?”
“I think I will be.”
To be continued.
Soji walked slowly down the corridor of the killer Xero’s base. It had unbelievably easy to get in. They did not even check what she had on her. The Death Note sat concealed within an auburn bag on her right shoulder. Near had provided the area of the base, and the rest was very simple. The base was in the middle of Tokyo itself in a building once owned by the mysterious company called Youtsuba. Soji had walked up to the front gate, told the two main guards that she planned to interrogate Xero, beat the living day lights out of them until they were both unconscious, traded a uniform with the unconscious female guard, hid the dead weight behind some large delivery boxes, and walked inside.
The id that she had swiped stated that her name was Melinda Williams, but the picture looked nothing like Soji, so she had to be careful never to let them see it.
“You there!” a voice barked.
He sounds like a hired dog, maybe a Doberman that hurt his leg in action and was forced into this predicament of low pay security. There are a lot of dogs nowadays. Why didn’t Kira think to eradicate them? No, killing is bad. Near stopped Kira from killing because Kira is not justice. Why am I thinking like this? Soji shook her head to clear it. A man was walking up to her now with his hands on his hips in the position of a mother who caught her child with his hand in the cookie jar. This man had had too many of those sneaked cookies when he was little and had retained a decent weight of over five hundred pounds.
“Sir?” Soji asked as though she were a soldier in the military.
“I didn’t think we had the military type around here,” the man started, “Who are you?”
“Melinda Williams sir,” Soji answered.
“Ah yes I remember that face, why are you not at your post?”
This idiot! He thinks he has seen me before. Kira….No what is wrong with me? I keep going back to that. Isica, is this your doing?
“Xero asked me to go to his office,” Soji answered, “It is about you sir.”
“Me? What do you mean me?”
“Oh you weren’t supposed to hear that! Sir I must be going” Soji said convincingly and began to walk down an empty corridor. In shock the man began to follow her. Idiot. Soji laughed. As she rounded another secluded corner, the man picked up his step and caught up with her.
“Now hold it there!” the man said, “I want to know what you know about this!”
“Kiya!” Soji said as she kicked the man square in the forehead. He fell to the ground and was out cold. Crud another body to deal with. Soji sighed and began making plans for her next steps. Near’s information stated that Ryuza’s….no Xero’s private room was on the second to top floor, and the elevator was waiting in the next corridor. Everything was going according to plan.
Soji hid the unconscious man in the crook of a corner and hopped he wouldn’t be discovered before she had a chance to escape. It was all up to chance, but that was the line of work and needed to be done. As she proceeded towards the elevator, thoughts of Ryuza went through her mind. It was all some sort of sick joke. When everyone left the Wammy Hose, Ryuza had stayed behind to complete his schooling. He and most of the other students became highly skilled people and worked for the benefit of the world.
I chose to leave Ryuza and the Wammy Hose after Near, Mello, and Matt. I guess I thought I would always return when the Kira case was laid to rest, but then I became the head of the C.I.A. and then Isica gave me the Note. Speaking of which, where is Isica?
Soji looked this way and that, but the shinigami had seemed to have disappeared. The elevator had no music, and the squeaks as it was driven up, unnerved Soji to the extent that she could barely move. Ryuza if you really became this way, I may have to….no, I will let Near deal with it. I am only here to confirm information that is all. But if it really is Ryuza, how will he react to seeing me?
The elevator stopped, and Soji preceded forward. The hall held no doors except for the one at the very end. Soji walked quietly down the hall and pushed the door open quietly. It was dark in the room, but the echoes of voices sprang into Soji’s ears. Sticking to areas covered in shadows, Soji walked towards the sounds.
“So Xero, it seems like that L character is going after you for all the people we dealt with. Can’t believe that shinigami exist though. Kira would be proud if he wasn’t dead,” a weasel-like voice talked.
Shinigami? Does that mean that Xero has a Death Note? Come to think of it, Near never told me anything about the killings. Could they have been heart attacks? I have never heard of Xero until Near told me about him. Could Near be holding the strings of the press so that people wouldn’t break into a panic about Kira. It is true that some of the world has returned to normal, but still some believe Kira is still out there. Near, you would cover this all up to keep people from panicking. Xero has a Death Note….but he doesn’t have shinigami eyes or Near’s people would have been killed on sight. No….he could have shinigami eyes right now. Isica where are you?
“L….No the real L is dead this is either Near or Soji….no it is definitely Near. And I will finish what Kira had tried to accomplish. I understand his means and what he was trying to accomplish and I will do it. Isn’t that right, Ryuza?” another voice asked coldly.
Ryuza? That was definitely Xero, but does that mean that he has Ryuza? Near was wrong! Ha! Ryuza isn’t evil!
“Xavier! Near will figure out that it is you, and he will stop you!” Ryuza voiced. The sound of his voice nearly brought Soji to tears.
Xavier, that is his name. That is Xero’s real name. My Death Note…
Will Soji kill this Xavier now that she knows that he is not Ryuza? You’ll have to wait for the next chapter of Soji’s Note that will probably come out tomorrow or the next day. Later people!
