Soji opened her eyes tentatively. It was not like she wanted to be awake to face the pain of her fall, and yet as sounds of the Earth consumed her, Soji found that she was on the ground and uninjured. It was as though as she blacked out, someone or something had flown her safely to the ground. A boy with sandy blonde hair was staring at her not far away.
“Are you ok angel?” the boy asked quietly.
What language was that? Soji wondered. I understood it, but what language was it? I think…Russian….
“Angel, are you ok?” the boy asked again.
Soji sat up and examined the boy. He seemed to be around eight or nine, and his sandy hair was scattered in every direction. A sudden throbbing in her head made Soji sit forward.
Dam where is Isica…I don’t even remember her getting on the plane. Why didn’t I think of it before? I was too focused on getting to Ryuza. Foolish, it didn’t even occur to me that the pilot might be out for revenge. And what happened? Where is the Death Note? And why is this boy calling me angel? My Russian is a little dusty from the Wammy House, but I can at least ask where I am….
“Where am I?” Soji asked in as best Russian as she could. The boy stared at me and then came closer. I tried again.
“Where am I?”
“Angel, are you going to be ok? You fell so softly from the sky, but you didn’t even have wings. Did it hurt? Why are you here Angel? And what do you mean where am I? Did Heaven not tell you where you were going? We’re in Russia right now.”
“I’m still in Russia?” Soji asked. The boy nodded and I looked around. Far in the distance were the Ural Mountains peaking out to the sky.
“Angel, are you going to be ok?” the boy asked again.
“I have a name,” Soji said trying to get matters back into order. Ok I need to get to Ryuza as soon as possible. I have to get there before one week ends. I have to get. I’ll worry about how I lived later…Where is the Death Note? “I’m Soji. Call me Soji.”
Soji looked around, and then something caught her eyes. There in the boy’s right hand was the Death Note.
“Can I have my book back?” Soji asked pointing to the Death Note.
“Oh, sure Angel. What is the book? It looks like it’s in a different language,” the boy said handing to book over to Soji. Without realizing it, Soji took the book and hugged it.
“Why does that book mean so much to you?” the boy said.
“It is a special book that I need to keep safe. My friend is in danger. Do you have any way for me to get to London?” Soji asked. It was a long shot, but she had to ask.
The boy broke out in a scream.
“Shut up human,” Isica ordered. The boy became quiet.
“Isica, where have you been?” Soji asked irritated looking up as the shinigami flew towards her.
“Well…if that is how you want to thank your saver then fine,” Isica said flatly.
“My saver?” Soji asked confused.
“As you fainted, I kept you from hitting the ground hard,” Isica said calmly.
“And why would you do that?” Soji asked.
“Well…if my show stopped, I would be sad…” Isica answered.
Suddenly the sounds of feet caught Soji’s attention. The boy was on the run screaming.
“Crap,” Soji swore and began to chase after him.
